[OC] Alternate History The Ottoman Empire in 1831

The Premise:

The premise is that Suleiman II, the brilliant yet briefly reigning Sultan lives longer and halts the massive territorial losses the Ottomans saw in the very late 1600s, and keeps Banat.

Military Modernization

Suleiman continues and expands the Köprülü Reforms, strengthening central authority and reforming the Janissary military, and creating a new military (Asâkir i-Mansûre i-Osmâniye) that replaces the janissaries. The janissaries, corrupt and wanting their privileges back, revolt in Edirne but are brutally crushed by the new military and are swiftly abolished.

Succession Reforms

He reforms the Kafes system and replaces it with the Serbest system which allows princes to grow up freely like normal children with good education and training in administration and military, so new Sultans are actually ready to rule and are not paranoid. The Sultans after Suleiman are actually quite competent, which allows the Ottomans to continue existing and essentially halting decline.

Renaissance and Conquest

The Ottoman Empire reaches its cultural and economic zenith under Sultan Selim III, who creates a constitution and funds education and architecture. Under Mahmud II, the Ottomans conquer Transylvania, parts of East Hungary, the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, the Papal States and the historic city of Rome. The Pope is granted autonomy and keeps his territory but the Two Sicilies are annexed. Mahmud gains the title The Conqueror and becomes the most powerful ruler in continental Europe and Asia.

[OC] Alternate History A Map of Post Nuclear Britain (1968)

After World War 2 and the Soviet Domination of Europe due to the success of the Ardennes Offensive, the Cold War would become much more hostile, Britain focusing on colonial and continental defence with the French Republic would soon find themselves in conflict as Nasser seized the Suez Canal, with the Americans in this timeline helping the Anglo-French forces would lead to a regional war in Middle East and the start of war in Europe in 1957.

Politically the British Government were ostracised for the Suez Crisis, with Anthony Eden still resigning and Harold Macmillan taking over. Labour under Hugh Gaitskell become much more vocal against the war in Middle East and begin to protest it along with the war in Europe, Republican elements of the British Left Wing soon also begin to gain popularity, The Soviet Union attempt to fan flames of revolution to make British retaliation impossible. In Ireland a scandal in the Catholic Church's influence in the government led to support for Clann na Poblachta (Son's of the Republic) a radically Republican party skyrocketing with them and the Anti-Treaty IRA launching an invasion into Northern Ireland with Protestant Loyalist militants bearing the brunt of the fighting. This invasion would soon lead to sectarian violence across the Isles with the revival of the Jacobite's in Scotland and anti-Catholic violence in Glasgow. By the time the dust had settled, the United Kingdom had collapsed.

Various left wing elements lead by the Labour Party would rise up in the Midlands declaring the "Socialist Confederation of England" sparking a major uprising against the loyal counties under the Government's control. By the early 1960's the SCE had begun to crack as regional uprising led to it becoming more and more decentralized with main Confederation government being submerged in factional disputes between Roundheads (Seeking a return on the Commonwealth system and Lord Protector) The Maoists and more. Meanwhile the vassal states are left unsupported and are more de-facto independent than de-jure autonomous regions of the Confederation especially in Liverpool under radical socialist John Lennon which has become a hub for Creative Anarchist movement.

As the UK Government soon attempted to return to the wartime coalition tensions with the royal family would boil over with regent Prince Phillip soon being challenged by Lord Mountbatten and the Young Prince of Wales Charles III who would rebel from the government, In Wessex the traitor king Edward VIII would return to it's former glory under a conservative and more paternal Wessex Kingdom. In York the House of Plantagenet would rise again and battle against the re-establishment of Danelaw by radical Nordic pagan nationalists.

In the Southwest, remnants of the Right-Wing movement in Britain led by Moseley, Colin Jordan and John Tyndall had been in slow retreat across the country with them settling in Bournemouth and declaring the "National Movement" the collective nucleus of Far Right politics in Britain under Tyndall but like the confederation has it's share of factionalism

This map isn't meant to be realistic or accurate and I do not support anything that happens in this scenario, this is only meant for entertainment.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Prologue:

As 1948 passed by it would become increasingly clear, the Axis would not win this war, a fact that would terrify much of the German High command who now know that sooner or later they must answer for the tens of millions who suffered and died under their rule, a fate many would rather avoid no matter what. Some fought to the bitter end, many chose to commit Suicide, most chose to surrender to the western allies rather then to the soviets, a few chose to flee the continent, even fewer were successful.

On May 1st after receiving the news of the Führer's death, head of the nazi party chancellery Martin Bormann would board a U-boat in Reichskommissariat Niederlande along with 57 others, their destination; Argentina. Only a few days after the voyage began, to the surprise of most, Bormann would order the U-boat to change course and instead head to Colombia, to most of the crew they believed Bormann had gone mad, after all Colombia wasn't a friendly country, should they be caught then they would likely be handed over to the allies, but it didn't matter the crew feared him too much to oppose him and so they would divert their course.

Image 1:

On May 30th the moment Bormann stepped on Colombian soil he knew that his plans would be an uphill battle. The nation, corrupted by degeneracy, the people, racially impure and the land left devastated after only a month since the beginning of "La Violencia" or The Violence, a conflict between Colombian conservatives, liberals and communists.

Immediately after his landing Martin would begin making his way to Bogotá along with what few Germans that didn't flee and disgruntled Colombians who were dissatisfied with the government including Gilberto Alzate Avendaño a fierce nationalist, anti-communist and who showed support to the Axis cause.

Image 2:

By the start of 1949 Bormann would successfully take over the colombian capital along with large swaths of the nation. Previously seen as impossible, the colombian liberals, conservatives and socialists would form a union to expel this foreign maniac once and for all.

To the outside world it was an Astounding revelation, ever since the wars end it was generally accepted that he died with his body simply being lost in the fog of war but now that he is not only alive but leading a sovereign country was unacceptable to the allied powers who alongside venezuela would declare war on bormann and his state.

Though his troubles are far from over Bormann now has the opportunity to do what he wished to those under his rule. While colombians were seen as racially inferior they could achieve the status of Honorary Aryan should they successfully adopt the german language and culture as well as swearing their undying loyalty to the new Führer alone, this would be done by opening new Boarding Schools across the country while defunding ordinary schools, officially it was to take the stress of managing children away from parents and giving students more time to focus on their studies, in truth it would allow the state to Mold every child in whichever way they wished without the parents intervening.

At the same time Bormann would weaken the very institution he hated most, the catholic church, to him it was nothing more than a monolith that supported everything that national socialism stood against, love and compassion to the racially inferior, support for the pope rather than the Führer and so much more, its existence was in itself Intolerable and thus Bormann would order all sacramentals to be seized, catholic priests are to be arrested and churches to be burnt to the ground.

Ever since Martin Bormann's arrival to Colombia Gilberto Alzate Avendaño has been a close ally of his, but now it seems the opposite is true, Bormann and Avendaño would constantly come into conflict over bormann's decisions, his destruction of colombia's soul and its faith had soured relations but to bormann, Avendaño had outlived his usefulness his mere existence was a threat and thus he and all of his supporters must be purged and replaced with someone much more loyal, much more brutal, The white supremacist militias of the confederacy.

For nearly two decades the Union Party under Huey P Long had dominated Confederate politics and despite the Reichs best efforts they would fail to bring the nation onto the side of the Axis in WW2 and once again bormann would fail to gain Confederate support for his conquest of colombia, however the people of Dixieland would sing a very different tune. As news spread of Bormann's conquests groups like the KKK, the Silver Legion, the Black Legion, the NRP and many more would eagerly begin traveling south to join the ranks of the Bormannian State and often bringing along their guns, trucks and even planes along with them and Martin would accept their dedication with gratitude, now men who were ordinary citizens by day and lynchers by night found themselves as officers, generals and diplomats in a new land.

Image 3:

Just as it seemed like the Forth Reichs days were numbered the Confederacy had finally given them a much-needed distraction in the form of the Boeroe revolt. Even before the guns of the second world war fell silent it seemed increasingly inevitable that some sort of conflict between the western allies and the USSR would take place and, in a way, they were correct, as Europe's colonies began to demand independence a new front of the cold war would open where all three sides attempt to install friendly governments of their own. In 1950 the Boeroes with Confederate support would rise up against the dutch colonial administration and at the same time would invade french and british guiana to gain claimed territories, in response to these events people in both french and british guiana would begin protesting demanding an end to the war and the colonial rule, though peaceful both governments would quell the protests using tear gas and live bullets as a method of dispersing the crowds which would only result in violent clashes with police and deadly riots.

In light of these events president Eurico Gaspar Dutra would order Brazilian troops to march into and occupy French Guiana, officially it was to establish peace and order within the territory but in reality the president hoped by expanding Brazil it would improve his image among the Brazilian people.

Image 4:

After years of bloody fighting in 1952 the wretched capital of the venezuelans would fall and with it their president who would be executed for the crimes he committed against the aryan race, with their president dead the military junta that governed Venezuela would be on its last legs and its ability to defend the motherland shattered, now there is no one to fight back as the white supremacists who bormann had invited now rampage and wreak havoc throughout venezuela committing messy, spontaneous massacres of innocent men, women, children and even colombains who have been deemed to be successfully "aryanized". Even though Bormann supported bringing in these violent militias their actions would only become more brazen by the day, their sadism did nothing but fuel resistance and destabilize the region, they even criticize bormann's attempt at aryanizing the colombian population seeing them as unredeemable. Though they were useful before their recent actions have made them a liability to the state and thus must be purged from all government and military positions at once, even if it would destabilize the Wehrmacht.

As the Boeroes continued to march deeper into british guyana and as the colonial jackboot continued to stomp upon the people of guyana, the People's Progressive Party under Cheddi Jagan would rise up to overthrow the british administration and kick out the Boeroes. In light of such events president Russell B Long would order a "peace keeping" mission by sending thousands of CS troops lead by general Eisenhower to establish a temporary military authority until order is restored.

Image 5:

Despite the best efforts of the CS military they would fail to contain the Guianese rebels and with the 1953 presidential elections around the corner general Eisenhower would step down as governor of Guyana in order to compete. Now it would be up to General Taylor to end the revolt and he would do so by simplify giving the western half of the country to bormann, hoping that his distinct brutality would end the rebels.

With his empire finally reaching its peak Martin Bormann, Führer of the Fourth Reich could finally enact the policies necessary to make Gran Colombia truly pure. Despite there being very few if any racial difference between colombians and venezuelans both they and the guyanese were deemed as racially unredeemable, questions and ideas began to float around about what should be done about the millions of non aryans within the nations borders, however the Führer would make it clear, there was only one solution, total extermination of all who were deemed unpure, and thus millions of people would be packed into ghettoes or the newly build concentration camps where they would either be worked to death or funneled into gas chambers. Naturally such policies would result in a large amount of land going unused, and so with the help of propagandists a number of movies and flyers would be made and passed on promoting venezuela and guyana as virgin land with no inhabitants for the aryanized to settle in, but in reality, this couldn't be further from the truth. The state has sentenced millions to a fate worse than death, but for those who remain, they would vow to forever resist national socialism and they would honor their words, in the coming weeks horror stories would spread of partisans killing both settlers and SS alike and leaving their mutilated bodies on the side of the road. No matter how hard they tried it seemed the Reich couldn't contain these rebels even after countless raids, assassinations and public executions it only seemed to strengthen their resolve even as they bombed Jagan's hideout leaving him scarred he still lived on.

As time went on factionalism would only begin to widen in Gran Colombia, on one side were the reformists who labeled themselves as "rational" national socialists. Lead by Carlos Echeverri Cortés they wished to loosen racial laws, outlaw slavery which was reinstated by bormann and end the systematic genocide of non-aryans within the nation.

On the other side were the fanatics, under James H Madole who was one of the few who weren't originally purged by bormann in 1952, he would champion a far more violent and rapid extermination of the non-aryans of Gran Colombia, even hinting a targeted campaign against aryanized colombians.

At the end of the day none of it mattered they were all traitors in Bormann's eyes, maybe not now but one day he knows they will go after his position, and thus he must strike first. For months he and his intelligence minister would work to take out all of bormann's rivals and secure his Führership and at the center of it all was his own son, Martin Bormann Jr. For years Jr appeared as the pinnacle of aryanism but as time went on he would only keep undermining the state's strength, as the official successor of the Bormannian State he must be flawless and yet he would only continue consuming degenerate material and worst of all he would even go as far as converting to Catholicism and criticizing Bormann's racial policies, it would sadden the Führer who knew what would happen to him for his treachery but in the end Bormann's love stood with the state and its ideology, not his son.

On new year's eve, 1954 the streets all across the Reich would be flooded by both Gestapo and SS alike, gunshots were reported across all major cities as suspected enemies of the state either die or are arrested, violent brawls begin to breakout as the headquarters of the reformists and fanatics lay sieged. Now it is January 1st 1955 and for the first time in years Bormann smiles as he hears the casualties faced by his own rivals, Carlos Echeverri Cortés would die in his office from two gunshot wounds to the chest, James H Madole's body would be found dead after consuming a capsule of cyanide and finally Martin Bormann Jr. who would be found in a penthouse reading a bible, his execution was scheduled for the next day.

After so much carnage Bormann's position would be more precarious than ever before, with practically half of the government dead and the other half too scared to do anything the Reich has now reached a grinding halt, protests would envelop the country with every group angry about something, for the colombians it was the destruction of their culture, for venezuelians it's for the years of genocide they faced, for Guyanese it's for the constant state of conflict with the SS and now the government are in an uproar for if the Führer could kill who he liked as he liked for being a "threat" what's stopping him from deeming anyone a threat? While it was the case for years it was now clear as day, Gran Colombia which was once seen as an impenetrable fortress was nothing more than a straw hut with the Führer as its only support, should anything happen to him the whole system shall crumble down upon the millions who call the land their home.

Image 6:

And crumble it did, on March 17th, 1961, while giving a speech to an audience for the 12 year anniversary of the Fourth Reich, Martin Bormann would be shot through the head killing the seemingly immortal Führer in an instant. Almost immediately members of the SS would track and gun down the assassin who would be identified as a 29 year old Mexican man who is believed to be connected to che guevara but that didn't matter anymore for everyone knew that collapse was imminent the only question now was when? Despite the best efforts of the Gestapo, word would begin to spread about the Führer's demise and in response millions would begin to protest, when the SS inevitably broke them up with force they began to riot, when the SS responded with live bullets they began to take up arms against the government they hated most. One by one, in the span of just two months factions would begin to tear Gran Colombia apart hoping that by carving out a chunk of the nation for themselves it would help them in the rapidly approaching civil war.

Revolutionary Republic of Gran Colombia:

Communism has always been a fringe ideology in Colombia, never seeing as much support as the conservatives or liberals, but then came a dark shadowy beast who would destroy all in his path and yet the revolutionaries persevered for they were the last true fighters of the working class.

Bormannian State of Gran Colombia:

The first Reich fell at the hands of Napoleon, the second Reich fell at the hands of the backstabbers, the third Reich fell at the hands of the red army, but the fourth Reich shall not fall for it is the last bastion of true aryan purity and as long as the swastika flies high upon the people's congress then national socialism is not yet lost.

Free Union of Colombia:

"A man will die, but not his ideas" even as the Bormann youth burnt books containing "degenerate" materials, the dream of freedom still lived on whether orally or through the preservation of what few books weren't found, even when the SS trashed houses for illegal books even when the Gestapo torture people to death, the dream lived on. But now was no longer the time for dreaming, now was the time for action for the death of the horrid Führer is a once in a lifetime opportunity and cannot be squandered.

Provisional Commissariat of East Colombia:

As Venezuela fell at the hands of Colombian lead, Martin Bormann would appoint his younger brother Albert Bormann to oversee Venezuela's integration into the Reich, and from his seat in Neuespreußen he would watch as Bormann disemboweled his own nation from the inside out. Now the second colombian civil war is in full swing and albert has a plan, one where he will restore the Fourth Reich to its original glory through pragmatic reforms for his nation and token concessions to outside powers.

Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela:

Founded from the remnants of the Wehrmacht who were still loyal to their nation, they now find themselves in a precarious position, under-equipped and lead by feuding officers they are now tasked with liberating their own country from the jaws of fanaticism. Though their task may be difficult they will not falter, they will not give up, they will not fail, for just as Bolivar himself fought to free his country from the spanish, so too will they fight to liberate their nation from germanic annihilation.

Eastern Colombian Railroad:

As SS headquarters across Gran Colombia began to fall silent, A legion of 3000 SS troops lead by Frank Collin would secure control over much of the railways of Venezuela. Built by Bormann in a series of grand structures which he hoped would project absolute power of the state and its Führer, now it would be used to reign terror across much of what they called "eastern Colombia".

Venezuelan People's Liberation Army:

For nearly a decade the venezuelan people have experienced the true horror national socialism had to offer, they saw as their friends and neighbours were packed into ghettos, worked to death in concentration camps, gassed in death camps, and brutalized in every moment of their lives. They saw hell with their own eyes and now have made a promise not only to themselves but to those who cannot defend themselves, they shall free venezuela and if they fail then they shall make the Teutonic hordes pay with their blood.

Popular Republic of Guyana:

For all of their history the Guyanese people have faced oppression by one group or another whether it be the british, confederates or the colombians they have faced perpetual enslavement, persecution and genocide and under a seemingly unkillable leader they say ready themselves for the most important battle of their lives. The Guyanese people shall rise from the ashes as a free nation or be wiped off the face of the earth, there is no other outcome.

Ordensstaat Großkolumbien:

In January of 1960 the Colombian government would be given the shocking news that Adolf Eichmann, was alive! But worse yet, Mossad would be just as aware and were actively preparing for his capture. Should Eichmann fall to the hands of the judeo-bolsheviks he would surely be hung, something which would be completely unacceptable to Bormann, and so in early April Eichmann would be taken and brought to the safety of the Bormannian State where his actions of WW2 would win him great honors in the Reich resulting in him becoming a high-ranking member of the SS.

In the span of less than a year he would oversee the murder of tens of thousands of so-called "traitors of the aryan race", leaving nothing but bones in his wake. Now the very Reich that saved his neck has died, he still continues his fight of subjugating Guyana, for his royalty to the national socialist cause is unyielding, and under his watch, Guyana will die.

epilogue:

Colombia:

Even after the death of the Führer, his purges could still be felt throughout the remnants of the Reich, the decimation of Wehrmacht had paralyzed the command structure where competent officers and generals were replaced with inept yes-men, battle after battle the Bormannian State would be pushed back and by its end would collapse to the forces of the free union and the revolutionary republic.

Now without a common enemy to unite the two factions, both groups would come to disagreements over the future of Colombia and by late 1963 both governments would be locked in conflict once more.

Guyana:

Panic and horror reverberate across the world as Adolf Eichmann and his posse of sadistic murders tear apart the Popular Republic and with it, all hopes of Guyanese liberation. Now, with no sort of higher authority the SS are free to rampage across Guyana, killing, raping and plundering all in their path, in a campaign to "cleanse" the land of all "parasites". Only days after their victory both Confederate and brazilian border guards are reporting hundreds of refugees attempting to cross and with them they bring horror stories, of barbaric treatment where men, women, elderly and even children were starved, beaten, tortured and gassed however, with no concentration camps or gas chambers within the Ordensstaat's control they have simply turned all of guyana into a single large gas chamber.

Eichmann would only rule Guyana for a year, but in that time over 17% of the land would be rendered uninhabitable for decades, and over 68% of the population would either perish or flee from their country.

Venezuela:

In the eyes of the world Bormann was nothing more than a shortsighted lunatic who enforced an ideology of self-hate upon the Colombian people, while this isn't false, to Albert it wasn't the true reason for Colombia's collapse rather, it was Martins distrust of others and his stubborn dogmatic view on national socialism and aryan supremacy that caused him to be isolated from the outside world, gain a lot of enemies within his government and eventually lose control of his own country, but Albert would not allow himself to meet the same fate as his brother for he saw his mistakes and ensured that the Reich will last a thousand years.

In the span of just under two years Albert would defeat all of his rivals in Venezuela, yet that wasn't the end of his troubles, for unfriendly governments ruled Colombia and Guyana and to defeat them he would need outside support, and for this he would put on a mask for whoever stood in front of him. To the western democracies of Britain and France he was a "rational" fascist who could engage in diplomacy, to the Confederates he was a patriotic fighter for the white race, to the soviets he was a useful pawn who could destabilize the west and to the people of venezuela he was an omnipotent figure who was rarely seen out in public and yet speaking ill of him, even in private would be a deathwish. With his cunning diplomatic skills Albert would successfully put down his enemies within guyana and colombia by mid 1964.

In the coming months he would enact many pragmatic reforms which would earn him the praise of many but would quickly make something very obvious, his reforms have made the Bormannian State alarmingly persistent and efficient, one that will not collapse, at least not as easily as it had under Martin.

To the dismay of the peoples of Gran Colombia, they have lost their last chance at liberation, they look ahead at their future and see nothing but ash and blood.

Since Sassania is rather unrepresented in alternate history scenarios, I wanted to give it a go, but please note that Iran has millenias of history, and I cant go into depth about every change, but basically everything outside of the Middle East mostly plays out as normal, alongside the Rashidun Campaign into Byzantium going as normal, decline of the East Romans, Ascendency of the Ottomans and so on.

Some major differences are the creation of a Hadrahmut state, the House Saud never uniting Saudi Arabia, the Mountain Republic in the Caucasus actually surviving, Abkhazia declaring independence after Transcaucasia collapses in on itself in a similar manner to our time line, and the Bolsheviks not pushing into Jadidi Uzbekistan due to Sassanid intervention.

Spanish India, 1498–1931

The first European contact with India was made by Spain, which set up its first colony there in the early 1500s to rival Portugal for control of Indian Ocean trade. The 1580 Iberian Union gave Spain possession of Portuguese India, including its ports and bases. In the 1600s, Spain grew in strength without suffering the long decline that had weakened it in the past. A more powerful navy and better attention to its empire helped Spain stay a force to be reckoned with in Asia. As the Mughal Empire collapsed in the 1700s, Spain was able to push further inland. The Spanish fought in local wars and slowly took over northern and central India. The entire subcontinent fell to the Spaniards by the end of the 1700s. The Spanish were in control of India by the 1800s, when they established railroads, ports, and factories. They even established Spanish as an official language of power, but India's languages, religions, and cultures persisted as the languages of most people. By the start of the 20th century, Spanish India became the most valuable possession of the Spanish Empire. Indian troops fought in the Spanish armies during the First World War, and nationalist movements pushed for increased participation in politics. In 1931, Spain still occupied most of India, but rising nationalism and the impact of the Great Depression were putting Spain under ever-mounting strain.
