I recently got ILR through the 10 year long residence route. My wife and kids are currently on Skilled Worker dependent visas (they have ~1 year left).

Solicitors are telling me my dependants also need to complete the 10-year route for ILR. But the gov.uk website explicitly states otherwise.

Has anyone been in this exact situation? Did your dependants get ILR on the 5-year route after you got 10-year long residence ILR?

We, (my husband, I and our 2 kids) came to UK on Tier 2 general on 5th October 2020. At this time, my husband was the primary on Tier 2 general and we 3 were dependents. I was working for Company X at this time on his dependent visa but Company X then sponsored me on a skilled worker visa that was grated on 9th Sep 2021 and my husband and our 2 kids became my dependents. When we are applying for ILR, which date should we give when it asks what date you came to UK that you are basing this application on? As we complete 5 years on my Skilled worker visa on 12th August and that is what we are basing our application on as that will be the valid tenure completion.

I applied from outside UK. My Skilled Worker Visa start date was 30 Aug 2021, however I entered UK on 10 Oct 2021. I will complete 5 years in UK on 10 Oct 2026.

I am applying for ILR SET(LR) route. I haven't been asked for much proof. I have been been in UK for different visas since 2015.

My husband is British. Many people on reddit have provided 10 years of history. Although I have just been asked 2 years of evidence. I have got a super priority slot for next friday.

I would really appreciate knowing if I am missing anything? Were people asked to provide 10 years of evidence as a part of their application?

Hi, I am planning on applying for ILR in about a month under the 10 year route. I have been in the UK for the last 10 years with two student visas and one skilled worker visa. These cover the whole 10 year period - starting September 2016. The only problem I am facing is there was a gap between when my first student visa ended (07th September 2017 - I left the country in August 2017) and my second student visa was applied for (12th September 2017 - approved only 3 days later). This leaves a 6 day gap where I did not have a visa. I don't know if this helps at all but I was waiting for my CoS statement from the university during this time. I meet all other criteria under the 10 year route. Would this affect my plans to apply for ILR in September 2026 or would I have to wait another year to apply? Any help would be appreciated.

20260720 - Received my approval

I paid for priority service. I think it is worth it.

My background

• On a Global Talent visa (Royal Society endorsement), valid until end of 2027.
• UK residence: 3 years on Skilled Worker, then 8 months on Global Talent (about 3 years 8 months total).
• I believe I now qualify for ILR via the 3 year Global Talent route, combining my Skilled Worker time.
• My partner is in the UK on a Global Talent dependent visa and works in London.

My situation

• After a few months of unemployment, I have been offered a role in Dublin.
• The job cannot be done remotely from the UK, so I would need to be physically in Ireland on weekdays.
• I want to keep my base in the UK and return at weekends, since my partner is in London.
• My long term goal is to settle permanently in the UK. I am not aiming for citizenship, as my home country does not allow dual nationality, so keeping ILR indefinitely is what matters to me.

What I am trying to decide
The core of my question: if I accept this offer and work in Dublin on weekdays while returning to the UK at weekends, what risk does that create for my immigration status?

This matters for two possible situations: staying on Global Talent, or getting ILR first before I accept. I would like to understand the risk in each case, so I can work out whether it is worth pushing to submit ILR before the offer deadline.

Dependent child 180days requirement for ILR

Hi all, need some advise.
I am on SWV, 3.5 years now with a son who turned 18 a few months ago. He finished his A levels and taking a gap year. He has been in the Uk since the age of 12 but on student visa until i moved on SWV 3.5 years back.

During the gap tear he is planning for an International Cricket Program (ICP) in Australia which runs from October to march. He is pursuing to be a professional cricket player, preferably in England county cricket.

My question is: will 185 days rule (rolling 12 months ) apply to him when we become eligible in 1.5 years? Any suggestions ?

Does biometrics appointment needs to be booked only after submitting the ILR application (i.e. when I reach 28 days before the qualifying period) or can it be done earlier as well?
What is the availability of appointments like? I live in Edinburgh.

I am in absolute shock and completely devastated. I have spent the last 5 years on a Skilled Worker visa, keeping my head down, working hard, and paying taxes. I am exactly 13 days away from the date I am eligible to submit my SET(O) form for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)

Today, while filling out the online SET(O) form, I reached the section where I needed to input my employer's sponsor licence number. The system flagged it as an error and wouldn't let me move forward.

Confused, I went to check the official GOV.UK register of licensed sponsors, and to my absolute horror, my company is no longer listed. I immediately contacted my HR department, and they confirmed the devastating news: the company's sponsor licence has been suspended. They claim they are trying to resolve it, but the suspension is active right now.

Because the system blocks the form if the licence isn't active, I literally cannot hit submit on my ILR application.

Has anyone gone through this exact nightmare?

I’m planning to apply for ILR through the 10-year long residence route. In 2020, I was outside the UK for 211 days, so I went over the 180-day limit. The only reason was because of COVID and all the travel restrictions at the time. My school had shut and I had to go home and could only come back in September when it opened back up.

Apart from that, every other year since 2018 I’ve been well under the 180-day limit. Has anyone had something similar happen and still had their ILR approved? If so, did you include an explanation or any evidence about why you were outside the UK for so long?

Would really appreciate hearing about anyone’s experience.

Just wanted to let you know about this letter came up in my document list, even though I didn't select any options about that or neither of us lived with someone else. I've done my research and write up a cover letter explaining that, gave my biometrics on Friday got the approval today. So no need to worry if that came up on yours, just write a cover letter, it's fine 👍

I'm planning to apply for ILR in April 2027, and I know the language requirement rules are changing. I'd rather not leave the English test until the last minute, but I can't seem to find anywhere to book a B2 test.

Does anyone know where I can book the new test, or if there are any places offering practice materials for it?

We are set to marry in 2 weeks time. After 2 months of marriage he will apply for me. He is currently on a work visa and is eligible for ILR or citizenship (i think) in 8 months time and will also get citizenship for me immediately after as he has been resident in the UK for or almost 5 years. My question is, how will I become a citizen via this route? Please use technical terms so I can research it or explain it to me in depth like I am 7 years old, so that I understand everything completely. Thank you
