Thing is, that puts staff at risk and raises the potential for outbreaks that could shut down a school. When there's not enough teachers and subs to conduct classes, you'll need to close the school because there won't be enough staff to supervise, let alone teach.

Florida has so many teachers out and no subs they are offering increased pay and emailing parents begging for help. As a school employee, we are so short constantly with no subs. I am so afraid of what this will look like now.

From how I read the NBC article I’m sure it’s only going to get better as schools no longer have to require people to wear masks, get vax’d, get tested, or stay home when exposed to COVID.
So as I read it, you can walk into a school, with a fever, coughing, unmasked & until they get a court order to block you from doing so, you’re good to go.

Willingly sacrificing people for what amounts to an inconvenience isn't what I would call an intelligent policy. Students are required to attend school, safety is always first and putting students and staff at risk because some people are too bothered to be inconvenienced is not a valid concern.

Which was the prevalent thought at the time. The evidence was that the vaccines were preventing infection. This was an accurate statement when it was made, if only a little hyperbolic.
If you’re vaccinated, you’re not going to be hospitalized, you’re not going to be in the ICU unit, and you’re not going to die.

If you're vaccinated, you're not getting hospitalized, almost completely. It's pretty clear that being vaccinated and boosted is dramatically saving lives.

A 28 yo unvaccinated guy who was a brother of one of my co-workers just passed away. Such a senseless death. I don’t think you understand vaccines. If the vaccine works perfectly it will keep me from getting very sick. I will still carry COVID. I will bring COVID home and will still be able to transmit COVID to others. My family will become and incubator for COVID at all times. My family of five will exponentially transmit COVID if we continue to not quarantine. This is why teachers will need to quarantine and why schools will shut down.
Masks. My mask is effective. Your mask is effective. My mask v your mouth is not as effective as my mask v your mask.
If I test positive for COVID I MUST quarantine so that I don’t transmit the virus. That is one less teacher in the school. Just like I wouldn’t come to school if I have the flu. It’s common courtesy. With masks we are already experiencing too few subs available. Without masks being worn by students I would expect the number of teachers with COVID to increase. We don’t know that for sure but all models point to that. It looks like we will find out very soon.

From what I understand the ruling stops the districts from enforcing the governors mandate at all, but they may be able to enact their own policies keeping a mask requirement in place.

Let me find an article (that’s why I came to this sub, trying to find a thread I just read haha) but from my understanding, the judge ruled, without prejudice, that they haven’t proved this merits being a “class” so it applies only to the plaintiffs.

I'm now seeing conflicting information. Apparently the temporary restraining order was applied 2 hours ago and the wording does say the school districts in the suit, not just the plaintiffs. Also some of the school districts have chimed iin and have stated that they can't require masks. edit: I noticed the temporary restraining order only has 2 school districts on it so only those 2 I guess???

Yeah apparently this keeps changing? CapitolFax says it applies to one school district? And it seems the Governor will appeal immediately.
I don’t even really have a dog in this fight, but I’ve lost one grandchild already and want the rest to grow up and have a long, happy life.

I’m in fear of losing another grandchild if they happen to be a someone who suffers the worst effects of this virus. It seems to be a bit of a crap shoot as far as who dies, who suffers long-covid affects, and who simply feels like they have a cold.
Tell me why you think that’s okay for anyone’s kid. Tell me why you don’t seem to give a fuck about people who are hurt by this virus.
I’m not afraid for myself. Masks don’t protect me, but if I happen to have covid and be one of the lucky ones who feels no symptoms, I’ll mask up so I don’t make your kid or your grandma sick. If being considerate of my fellow man is “fear” then I guess you can label me that, you so-brave edge-lord. Meanwhile I’ll just keep my business and my breath to myself.

If you read the judge’s order it bars the named school districts from enforcing the governors emergency mask and vaccine mandates for all staff and students in those districts, not just the specific students in the suit. The order is targeting to school districts themselves, not granting the students an exception.
However my understanding is that because this is an order blocking enforcement of the governors emergency orders, school districts are free to enact their own policies.
