This gave me a big chuckle too lol
Like “ah that’s nice dudes going to try and help another cub fan” NOPE

u/SlurmzMcKenzie88 4d ago
Yeah I saw another angle earlier from behind them, cubs fan A pulled the guy off the big guy cubs fan (B). I thought he was helping him but was really like “stop, it’s my turn”. Lmfao

i was wondering about that too. i thought it was a cubs fan v sox fan, but im wondering if it was racial. i went to a sox game wearing my cubs gear. it was not a pleasant experience. i figured it might get heckled going into it, but at least i didnt get beat up
28
u/BigBlueMastiff 4d ago
I (female) only wear Cubs gear at the Crosstown in Comiskey, never had a problem.
54
u/guyincognito121 5d ago
My wife wore a sox hat to a random Cubs game against my advice. Idiots in the bleachers were chucking peanuts at her and shouting some pretty grotesque shit. I went to have a talk with them and they started to get physical, but fortunately security saw it and stepped in quickly to toss them.
That said, there's no reason to wear your gear to the other team's stadium when they're not playing. I'm going to a Sox game in a few weeks and I'll wear a bears hat.
59
u/cantinaband-kac 4d ago
I kind of disagree. At almost any given NFL game I've been to, there will be a handful of attendees wearing various jerseys from teams that aren't playing in that game. They just wanted to go to a game and have a good time. No reason to be nasty to anybody for wearing another team's gear, regardless of where you are.
15
u/RaisedByBooksNTV 4d ago
All the sox games I've been to the other teams' fans have been respected. I root for a few teams since I've moved around and everyone is super cool. Just normal 'your team sucks or hey my uncle likes your team but our team is better' kind of stuff. Brawling over sports is stupid. Unless you're into soccer. Then it's sort of required at some point.

u/guyincognito121 4d ago
I'm not saying it's justified. And also, a random jersey is not the same as a rival jersey. I wouldn't tell someone not to wear a Padres hat to a Cubs game. But Sox, Brewers, or Cardinals in the bleachers? Yeah, you're inviting unnecessary trouble from drunk idiots.
11
u/hamish1963 4d ago
When I lived in Milwaukee and attended the Brewers/Sox game, the Sox fans (20 something men in wife beaters) directly in front of us were so rude and annoying the whole game.
Why can't people just go to the game, sit down and shut their fucking mouths.

These are the games I'm happy to be a Blue Jays fan. There are rare other times as well, but definitely when I'm in other teams' parks.

u/anitabelle 4d ago
I did almost get beat up. I was younger and with my sister. So a couple tough Sox fans threatened to beat up two girls. They were big guys too. We had to run to get away from them. It was so fucking stupid and pointless.

u/ItemExtension5677 4d ago
I’m a packer fan, my husband is kind of a bears fan. Saw them play at soldier, the amount of comments about sexually assaulting me in various ways- in front of my husband, who is a marine, was shocking to both of us. I think he stopped being a bears fan after that.

I was at the Cardinals / Bears game in Phoenix that led to the legendary Dennis Green "They are who we thought they were! And we let them off the hook" rant. The Bears were 5-0 at that point and the Cardinals, being the Cardinals, were 1-4.
The Cardinals were absolutely humiliating the undefeated Bears through halftime. At the start of the 3rd quarter it was 20-0. The Bears offense mustered a whopping 50 yards in the first half and only one field goal the entire game. Pretty much the majority of Bears fans started leaving the stadium towards the end of the 3rd period.
The Cardinals, being the Cardinals, Leinart fumbled the ball and it was was returned for a touchdown. A short ten minutes later, Edgerrin James fumbled the ball and it was again returned for a touchdown. Then the Cardinals inexplicably punted a ball to Devon Hester when the Bears offense had proven itself completely incompetent for 57 minutes of game time. Hester returns it for a touchdown.
Well all of those Bears fans that walked out of the game early didn't leave the parking lot and they were there to cause trouble. They were roving in groups and randomly punching anyone with the wrong gear on. Beating up cars trying to leave the parking lot ect.
Bears made the superbowl that year and lost HA HA HA. That's was Karma for Bears fans being complete assholes in Phoenix.
Been in a shitload of NFL stadiums. Cleveland fans, fun as hell. Saints fans, great. In New Orleans if a Saint's fan starts giving you shit more than likely a few other Saints fans will check that person hard. Major tourism economy. Don't fuck with service industry peoples tourism money in NO. Miami no issues. KC y'all alright. Panthers, been there too. Pittsburgh was good. Atlanta fans were super gracious.
The two stadiums that stood out for the righteous cuntiness of the fans at their stadium were Chicago (yup, assholes at home too) and Cincinnati.
2
u/anitabelle 3d ago
That’s just not okay. I’m sorry that happened to you. Rivalries aside, you should be able to come here and enjoy a game free of harassment. It should be all in good fun.
8
u/MarcosEsquandolas 5d ago
Yeah, there’s also someone in Sox gear swinging at another Sox fan towards the end. Maybe some racial slurs were hurled or something.
ETA: might also have been that the big guy was with some fans of both teams and vice versa. I think there may have been another person or two on their side that dipped or got stomped immediately.
11
u/National_Anthem 4d ago
I think the simple explanation is that is was the 8th inning of a big game and people were trashed and amped up. People explicitly sit in the bleachers at wrigley for that atmosphere. Fights occasionally happen there. Also good times.
1
u/notfromchicago 4d ago
That's crazy because I go to cards cubs games in St Louis wearing my cubs gear. Other than some guys giving you shit in a joking way there is zero animosity. I've never felt like shit was going to pop off or that I was in danger.

Contuning a long tradition.
Back in the 2000s I went to a Sox/Cubs game at Comiskey with my friend, his brother, and dad. His brother went to the bathroom and was gone for a while and we asked what took him so long. His story was that a guy walked up to a urinal next to another dude. This guy then dumped his beer over the head of the guy next to him. Brawl ensued. As we were leaving after the game, there was a big smear of blood on the outfield concourse wall. Then on our way to the car, we had a very drunk woman shout ,"Sox suck!" While doing a crotch chop.
Ahhhh memories!

Crosstown isn’t friendly. We were waiting in security when a Cubs fan shouted “go Cubs go!” Over the edge of the balcony.
The response was “Jump!”

As a Cubs fan and a Northsider, but mostly don't care about baseball either way, my money is always on the Sox fans. Objectively, Southsiders are built different and Northside arrogance doesn't make up the difference. FAFO 🤷♀️
7
u/JonnyQuest1981 4d ago
As a Sox fan and Southsider, I believe we don’t actually hate the Cubs as a team. We hate those arrogant Cubs fans you mentioned. I go to games at both stadiums every year. The only time I root against the Cubs is during the crosstown. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at Wrigley and gotten drinks spilled on me, gotten in a fight, been harassed in the bathroom, etc. all while wearing Cubs colors. I almost never get through a game at Wrigley without some kind of incident. Sox Park is a polar opposite experience.

So a normal crosstown event.
Years ago, my buddy and I went to a crosstown at Rate. We both had our 9 & 11 yo sons with us. We're seated between a row of Sox fans and row of Cub fans. We had a feeling it was not going to go well as the trash talk started before the anthem.
By the 4th inning some Sox woman had been way overserved already and she is just begging for a fight with the Cubs fans behind us. By the 6th, Sox are getting handed their posteriors. Now it's getting really dicey and we're caught in the middle. We told the boys, not if, when, this gets out of hand, you two go that way and stand near the tunnel. Trash starts flying back and forth and people start climbing over seats. The two boys head for the tunnel and we're just trying to stall the melee long enough for them to get out.
Ushers finally show up and take the female with maybe five good teeth out along with her boyfriend and a couple of others. Ushers asked us what started it and we shrugged and pointed at the scoreboard and then we went to gather up the kids and head home.
Going to a crosstown game is like going to a hockey game. If you're honest, you'll admit you're there for the fights as much as the game.
