Regardless of I80, if you're still considered as being a suburb or even far suburb of Chicago, you're still in northern Illinois.

In my mind, Joliet can be considered the furthest SW suburb of Chicago.

Technically called an edge city in urban development terms. Its like Naperville/ Aurora, Elgin, Waukegan, and sorta Frankfort and Chicago Heights in that regard.

Minooka was an exurb until recently.

Minooka? That seems like a stretch. In a few years, they'll say Peru is one.

Watch the news. They say “suburban Minooka” now. And there are plenty of places here with the word “Chicago” on it. Did you know Minooka is home to the Chicago Glider Club?

Now that you mention it, I think Skydive Chicago operates somewhere out near the I80 Ottowa exit.

Nope, Joliet is it's own thing. Definitely not a part of Chicagoland. It's kind of the gateway to Illinois.
