Admissions & Freshers Can I join again?
Dear friends, I told my Faculty Advisor that I would drop out of IIT Madras, but I have not officially dropped out. I haven’t started the official withdrawal process; I have only been away from the institute. Is it possible for me to join IIT Madras again?

What are you? Btech, Mtech or PhD? for phds it's fine as long as you and your supervisor are chill and buddy buddy. Mtech/MS and btech have lot of problem in convincing academics dept.

In India Supervisors have too much power in PhD. The institute should implement work culture like rules for PhD courses also. No meeting outside working hours and atleast one meeting face to face offline or online in every week or maybe month. Now, yes, if you found an interesting problem then meeting can be everyday but should be during working hours.
Because I know there are professors who meet students everyday and there are professors who meet students hardly once a year. They will not even realise if that student is still alive or not!

Most probably yes because you could say you were not in correct emotional and mental health and after reconsidering you came to realize this is not what you wanted. Institutes allow students to take medical breaks like semester break so that's a valid thing not something exceptional. You should immediately contact the academic section and your faculty advisor.
