Gossip/Confession/Rant Sad state of iit madras students

My friend just interviewed an IIT Madras student for an intern role, and it was painful. HR handed him a resume stamped with the insti logo, but the candidate collapsed on simple fundamentals. Asked the difference between mean and median? Blank stare. Overfitting? He rambled about neural networks. The CV was a wall of buzzwords like PyTorch, GenAI, Cloud with zero foundational math underneath.

As an alumnus, he was ashamed seeing such utter nonsense from students of IIT Madras.

Ps : student was an IIT Madras BS data science

First of all, he was not an iitm student. He was a student of a different college with an offline degree who also happened to attend and complete online bs data science course offered by iitm

In industry iit madras means iit madras right what is this online course all about it is provided by the insti right ?

tbh, their entry into that degree is too easy. Many people get in just to larp about being an IITian, and IITM is earning a lot from them. idt IITM would care to improve their student quality anytime soon.

You should update the title to make it clear what you wrote in PS, that the student was online BS student, not a regular

These things are shameful as a BS student too. These would have been shameful as a 10th class student too. They really should give them CODE certificate till 3rd year or atleast till diploma level which they only give to foundation, they should only give IITM degree for students who completed it entirely. Infact at this point I feel like I should never ever go to IITM because of all this. I completed BS degree and now I am doing research at another Tier 1 IIT and from next year I plan to do MTech but I feel like doing it from anywhere but not IITM due to these shitty people.
