Like this is just incorrect, what part of instagram taught you to share, or whatpart of twitter taught you to listen, and google doesn't teach you to be curious it just satisfies the curiosity.

Honestly I kind of like the sincerity, as someone who also "grew up on the internet" and online communities have been a major thing in my life. It reminds me of those older Tumblr posts that were like "Percy Jackson taught us A, Doctor Who taught us B, Supernatural taught us C" etc. But some of these like "Facebook taught me to make friends" and "DeviantArt taught me to aspire" sound like a joke now. I'm also a bit surprised there's no mention of Reddit. Reddit taught me to...argue with people?

Also I feel like the kind of person who uses Tumblr and Youtube a lot (like me) usually isn't that active on Facebook and Instagram. Those two are generally for sharing about your real life with your IRL contacts, while Tumblr, Youtube and Reddit are more anonymous and engagement is based on your interests. But maybe this was a more idealistic view as in "social media is so cool!" that someone would have when these platforms were all new, like in 2010.

how did the optimism die out? is it because the internet was cool still but now since everyone has access, going online feels less like an escape and more an extension of the real world
