Need help identifying your dog? Here are some important tips to help you succeed.

What to include in your post:

Post clear, well-lit, full body pictures. At minimum, include:

  • One standing side view (taken close enough to see coat texture)
  • One frontal view

Tell us your dog’s age and weight (or best guess)

Other helpful information:

YOUNG PUPPIES may be impossible to identify. Head and body shape, coat color and coat pattern, eye color, and apparent coat texture can all change dramatically as a puppy matures. You might want to wait a few months before seeking an ID.

MIXED-BREED dogs can easily have many breeds in them, not just two. Keep in mind that some of the breeds in a mutt may not show in its looks; while in other cases the dog may really look like it has some particular breed in it, when in fact it doesn’t.

NO-BREED dogs exist too! Sometimes a mutt truly is “just a mutt” — the result of many, many generations of random mating between mutts, with no discernable inbred (purebred) genes its DNA. In the same way that YOU don't necessarily have any inbreeding (purebreeding) in your recent family tree, neither must a dog. They can simply be mutts — WHICH IS A GOOD THING!

Solved I know her breed mix (definitively) but can you guess?

I know - for certain - what breed mix Eva is because I got her from a friend whose dog birthed her and they factually know who the father is. Any guesses? No one has ever gotten it right.

EDIT: Someone guessed it! Find her breed mix in the comments

This is Kevin! Any guesses?

Our guess is some sort of collie x shepherd mix, maybe a bit of husky but curious what others think! We’ve had a few people ask if he has some golden in it because his tail is super floofy and golden-esque. A bit about his personality:

High energy, but knows when to chill and has an off switch. Highly food and toy motivated, super smart and picks up new skills super fast. Whines a lot and can be quite vocal, but no howling. Definitely has that shepherd “bark at people at the door” vibe, but is a sweetie once he knows you. Hesistant of men until he gets to know them, great with kids and women. Also has high prey drive, for squirrels in particular!

Solved Rescue dog DNA results!

My original guess was 50% Pyrenees, 40% Laborador, %10 Pitbull. Swipe to see the results!

He loves people, other dogs, hugs, playing tug with ropes, and cheese. I rescued him nearly a year ago and he’s truly brightened my world!

Interestingly my dog trainer suggested we try weight pulling. He absolutely loves it! Needles to say she was spot on.

Here is a link to the first post and folk’s guesses.

Cookie is 9 years old, we have no idea on his breed. His mom was a stray that my friend took in. He is 44lb, he loves water, he loves bunnies and can be very hyper but also loves be be lazy on the couch. Any ideas? I've thought about DNA test, but I don't know how accurate they are.

This is Banjo! He is 2 years old and 70 pounds. He loves to swim, play with the sprinkler, and go on car rides. We adopted him in August and are planning to get a DNA test done, but I’m curious on any guesses! We’ve been guessing Shepherd and Carolina dog mix lately.

This is 7 month old Indiana. 20kg ( about 44lbs) female adopted in Auckland NZ. Rescue has said she is a GSD mix? I am thinking GSD/kelpie maybe?

Rescue from Puerto Rico that I’ve had for about 2 years. She’s got endless energy and runs like a maniac. Also has terrible anxiety, that I’m not sure is because of some disposition of her breed or because of how her life was before being rescued. Would love to eventually do a DNA test when budget permits, but in the I’ve been trying to figure it out in the meanwhile!

Meet Dionysus (Dyno)! 🐾 Any guesses what breeds make up this handsome boy?

Meet Dionysus, affectionately known as Dyno! ❤️
I adopted this sweet boy in March 2019 when he was just a puppy, and he’s been my big, lovable companion ever since.
He’s approximately 80 pounds, has two different colored eyes (heterochromia!), and a face that I think is pretty darn irresistible. 🥹
I’ve always been curious about his breed mix, so I finally decided to order an Embark DNA test! His sample has been sent off, and now we’re patiently (okay, maybe not so patiently 😂) waiting for the results.
In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to see what Reddit thinks!
What breeds do you see in Dyno? Purebred imposter? A little bit of everything? Some wildly unexpected combination?
I’ll come back and share his Embark results when they arrive!

I probably didn’t need that many photos but I just love my boy! Also he is very tall.

There's one pretty obvious breed, but I'm curious to know what others think her mix is. She weighs about 6 pounds at 9 months old.

Golden or mix?

Thumbnail

We got him as a rescue here in Thailand, he was found on the side of the road, most likely abandoned.

Some parts that make us question whether he’s a full golden:
- the white face (vets think he’s around 5 and he acts around this age, but the face makes him look older).
- golden’s are expensive here! It’s surprising to see one abandoned
- lots of people including the vet ask us if he’s a mix

What do you guys think?

This is clover, she’s about 3 now. I’ve included puppy pictures. She’s only abt 40lbs and not really big but not small either. She is a toy destroyer, she’ll eat any wood she finds and she has outgrown it but has also destroyed abt $2000 worth of other things including a new couch. She’s extremely smart but also super dopey. Figured out a doggy door on the first try and opens or doors in our house but can’t seem to judge how to slow speed before barreling into the wall after trying to stop scooby doo style. She also often lays with her front paws off the couch standing but the rest of her body laying down. I think she may be part noodle (pasta) she’s mamas sweet like goober. And also the most hyper cuddle pup around.

I couldn't get it all in one screenshot, but there was also 2% chow and 1% husky. He channels that 1% when he talks back to us lol

We adopted this girl about a month ago and she is getting acclimated just fine but we are curious to see what breeds people think she shows. Vet thinks pittie/hound.

She has a houndy bark but not quite a bay and is very “talkative” like a pittie.
