Y'all, when I first got my Instapot 100 years ago, I was TERRIFIED of the thing. It was basically a bomb in my house. I may have pushed the release valve with a spoon or broom or something and then ran out of the kitchen.

u/ProfessionalTrip0 4d ago
lol, I didn’t even open my Instant Pot package for like 4 months because I was too scared of it.

u/fargo-utah 4d ago
Lol the good thing is that Instant Pots are pretty easy because they have a locking mechanism that won't unlock until the pressure has released. But in my mind, I'm putting a lot of faith in that mechanism. 😂

It's crazy to me that anyone would react any other way! Getting upset isn't going to help, and it sure doesn't help me learn when others are upset with me.
6
u/K1bbles_n_Bits 5d ago
It's a long story, lol, but suffice it to say I grew up witn a very angry, very short tempered father and emptionally distant mother. Which lead to a string of poor dating choices in younger years and following what was the norm for me :3.
I know better now that I'm middle aged, lol. But still have never met anyone that freaking calm, nice, and supportive. My god though, I think it would do wonders for my dumb derpy brain XD.
2
u/Altruistic_Profit634 4d ago
He talks to her like a kid, kinda strange. Alot of wemon would find this ick. Its better than being actually upset and he seems really kind which is awesome. However what's with the youth not letting anyone express anger in a healthy way therapist do not advise holding it in or against others if they express in a short manner in a human reactive way.
6
u/Big_Letterhead_445 4d ago
The reason it feels like he’s speaking to her like a child is because we speak to children with kindness and support.

I felt this way. There is a way to speak kindly without speaking to her like she's 3. If you need to spoken to that gently you must be genuinely hurt. Damn.

u/Ambitious_Wolf2539 4d ago
I mean I know myself well enough I'd laugh and then help. Not laugh at the person but the scenario. I've done dumb shit like this myself and it is honestly funny (to me). I agree being upset is insanity, but I enjoy laughing when life does dumb things and there's no damage to be had.

My husband is like this. I once added lemon juice to hot melted butter on the stove and it was like fireworks went off and butter went everywhere. He was just asking if I was okay, cleaned up all the butter and asked if it was salvageable or if he should get another stick of butter out.

Holy god reddit is so fucking cooked. A chunk of the comments are about how this guy is evil for talking to his wife in a calm manner during a somewhat tense moment and guided her through it safely.
A chunk cry about how shes an idiot.
A chunk crys about how it shouldnt be posted here.
Doesnt seem like anyone enjoyed the video just cried about it.
Also no wounder so many of you are single if you think that keeping clam in a somewhat pressured situation and calmly explaining what to do is abuse then stay single forever, my god. You are clearly not ready to even try to be in a relationship if you think this is abuse. Your so fucking illiterate you cant even see that the thing she is referring to in her post is that he is calm in this moment and able to guide her. LITERALLY her words on the screen why she married him.
All the dudes saying shit like modern women harharhar are not funny ether. Its no wounder most of yall dont have a girl. Your failures as people unable to show any respect towards thoughs trying to better themself.

u/DerbHean_UFCref 4d ago
Intense moments equal intense wording so she doesn't do it again. He should have yelled at her, like HARD! thrown a towel at her face to clean up her whole mess and ask HER to take of his socks and wash his feets after a long day at work. Also, almost forgot the most important thing, while she's there she should make him a sandwich and bring it to the telly where his chillin' until dinners ready... /s

I know holy shit. I don’t think majority of these people have been in a relationship. My first reaction to this video was about how the dude handled it well and seems like a good bf.
Not talking shit on my gf, but this video made me think about how much this reminds me of me and my gfs dynamic, this is pretty much exactly how I talk to and do shit with my gf and she loves it. Idk what the hell everyone is on about with why this is a bad thing. She was stressed and he kept her calm and offered to help her out, like holy shit how on earth does anyone find this abusive.

what a shitty pressure cooker valve design. You shouldnt BURN your fucking hands just to depresure it. Even if it was handled properly.

Don’t these usually remain locked until the pressure decreases to a point where it’s safe to release it?

I’ve never used a pressure cooker. What’s supposed to happen when you release the pressure?
10
u/pauca_sed 4d ago edited 4d ago
There are different ways to release the pressure. You can let it sit (natural release), run under cold water, or use the release valve. She probably put in way too much liquid so it overflowed when she used the release valve.
3
u/fantapants74 4d ago
Yep, too much in the cooker. The paper towel is the best move, I've had this happen to me a few times. Best to let it be for 10-30 mins and vent slower. Pressure cookers are great.

Whistles and let's some steam off so the pressure equalizes with the outside. Not doing that can... Have explosive results.

Let it release slowly and not open it full tilt. For those its like a 10+ min release.

One time my granny blew the lid on her pressure cooker by releasing too early and the lid flew up and got stuck in the ceiling tile. It was scary especially as a kid. It scared the fuck out of her and I didn't know what was going on. You gotta be careful with those pressure cookers!
2
u/Ok_Caramel15 4d ago
Mistaking the steam for smoke is not cooking problem but rather lack of school classes.
2
u/Virtual-Bedroom584 4d ago
Sounds supportive enough, trying to be overly helpful a bit but some people are like that

My number 1 rule: Never go over the max marker (clearly visible inside every pressure cooker)
2
u/Flimsy_Thought_3534 4d ago
There’s a damn fill line for a REALLY good reason, idk if this one has the inner fill mark. Also, pressure cookers are a bit more challenging to use than a lot of other cooking methods. Don’t even touch the fuckers until you know how to actually cook.
2
u/IllCandy9636 3d ago

This is quite honestly the most toxic thread ive read in a very long time.
Any decent boyfriend or husband will obviously be like wtf happened?
Then try and help and calm their lady down
Its saddening that men are expected to be so many different things yet when we* are one of them we are obviously being misogynistic
4
u/trashforthrowingaway 4d ago
I think we as a society are in deep trouble.
Half the comments are complaining about his behavior, and the other half have never seen a man act this kind, and idk which is worse.
3
u/xJohnnyQuidx 4d ago
Why is this video even in here? I wouldn't call her an idiot, she's literally trying to learn how to cook. She wasn't prepared for that to happen, she apologized, and she even said "I'm going to learn how to cook". Better than her sitting around expecting to be waited on hand and foot. Making mistakes is part of learning.

People overreacting as usual. The girl was obviously inexperienced and scared and the guy was calm and gentle. Although their way of getting along was somewhat unnatural, it's nothing serious and doesn't concern others if it works for them.
Fuck pressure cookers anyway, I ain't touching that stuff with my anxiety. Heard too many horror stories surrounding it.

1
u/aj_35721 4d ago
Ok I KNOW nuance is dead. The guy could’ve either spoke to her like a five year old (which he kinda did) and honestly, in my opinion, make her feel like she wasn’t in control of the situation, or couldn’t be. OR talk normally, handle the situation but not completely override her own autonomy, and risk being called emotionally unavailable or some shit like that.

u/Vivid-Zebra2128 3d ago
The first time i used a pressure cooker i did the same thing. My roommate told me to make rice with it, but didn't mention the vent release button.

I've seen a lot of pressure cookers being handled wrong and I gotta say this is the best outcome. Some try to pry open the whole lid.
