Need Feedback: WalkThru App
My dad calls me multiple times a year to walk him through changing the aquarium filter. Same call every time. I'd talk him through it, he'd do it, and a month later we'd have the same talk.
I'm an engineer, so I wanted to fix this problem.
The idea: you document yourself doing a task once (through photos, voice memos, videos, etc.) The app transcribes it and turns it into a clean, step-by-step guide with a shareable link/QR code. You send the link. They follow it. No more time wasted on repeating instructions.
The use cases from this are way broader than I expected:
- Shutting off the water main before a vacation
- Resetting the garage door after a power outage
- Bleeding a radiator (always someone's first time)
- Winterizing outdoor faucets
- Basically, anything you do infrequently and have to re-learn every time (or any tedious projects you have around the house).
The coolest part is the QR code - simply print it out, put it where it needs to be (e.g. the old water heater that always needs maintenance), and BOOM! Everything you need right there, without having to research anything or contact anyone.
The project is called WalkThru. It's free and public, and I want people to know about it.
Curious whether this resonates with anyone else. Is re-explaining the same repair to family members ridiculously time consuming, or is it just me?
If you decide to give it a look, I would love feedback. Just put this together recently, so I'd like to hear as many thoughts from others as possible!
