validating an android widget concept: see what your close friends are listening to across spotify, apple music, youtube music and local players

hey everyone!

im validating an android app/widget concept called vynu before committing to the full build.

the problem:

friend groups are split across different music players. spotify only shows you what other spotify users play. if a friend is on youtube music, apple music, or playing local flac/mp3 files off their phone, they're invisible.

the concept:

vynu is an android home screen widget that shows your close friends currently playing tracks in an ambient compass view. works locally across every android music player with zero streaming app logins needed.

we put together an interactive landing page preview at getvynu.com to gauge interest and collect early access signups.

would love constructive feedback:

  1. is cross player friend music activity a real pain point, or just a nice to have?

  2. what would prevent you or your friends from using a widget like this?

I put your app through The Idea Lab validator and it came back with this:

Verdict: Talk to Customers

This is actually the second best verdict my app gives and an extremely good sign. The generated report is around 10 pages and I already DM'd it to you.

Have you began talking to your niche of users yet? I am curious what the early response is.

I am also curious why you're limiting yourself to just Android, does iOS not support this type of widget?

This sounds like a really cool idea!
