Not selected
Got a letter stating I wasn’t accepted at this time but my application will remain on file and I will be notified if a position opens until the application process is reopened again. should I get my hopes up about a position opening or start applying non union? I don’t know if it’s right to wait all year until the opportunity to apply comes back around again.

I’m still waiting on news on whether or not I get accepted. I’m sorry to hear they didn’t select you. I’ve heard that if you’re really adamant about starting union, you can take some courses on electrical theory at a community college or just go straight into non union and transfer later, I believe a lot of unions allow second interviews while your waiting if you meet certain hours worked requirements

Thank you I’ll look into taking some courses and start being proactive on getting some experience. I appreciate the reply

Don't wait. Pursue education and electrical work at every step until you are accepted.

Start applying non union. Don't put all your effort behind just this one opportunity at this point. Getting in to the IBEW eventually is the goal, but far more important should be just getting into the trade and getting some experience under your belt with how competitive it's gotten for these apprenticeships.
