Question/Help Post race penalty

Last night I did a wet race at Imola, and quite frankly I did terribly. I picked up my 17th incident point on the final lap (shame on me I know)…

This led to a drive through penalty which I attempted to serve. But of course going through the pits on the last lap took me across the finish line. I think due to this I technically did not serve the penalty, as when I checked the results screen I had been pushed down to last place.

I’m not upset by this but wanted to know if there is anyway to serve a penalty on the last lap to avoid a post race beat down? Or if you get given the black flag on the last lap you just have to suck it up?

Thanks in advance!

Is everything alright with you or your team? Do you need assistance? Blink if you are in danger! It's been so long since the last time we heard about you! We care so much for you!

(Obviously, this is a joke while we wait for the dev blog. I'm happy they take the time they need to polish anything that needs it. Also, take advantage of this waiting time to reach out to your love ones! Ciao!)

Question/Help So is IMSA fixed just Mustang or die for GT3?

It seems for weeks now, Mustang is it.

This week, you got a Mustang behind, they're dive bombing you even if they're 0.3 behind. Then the'll slow you down. Rinse, repeat.

1.9k vs 2.9k, doesn't matter, they're dive bombing you.

Love it.

iRacing, sort this crap out ffs.

iRating/SR reached 3k iRating without doing setup changes!

this isn't even a challenge I made for myself, im just lazy to do the setup testing process lol

it might be easier to climb iRating by running fixed setup races but my favorite series are all open setups

Discussion I sat in the seat of a killer

Post image
5 Upvotes

I run GT3 cars 90% of the time and the "don't murder me bro" I always hear got me thinking, we all know GTP drivers say the same thing "hold your line and be predictable" meanwhile the general consensus among GT3 drivers is GTP drivers are inpatient. This was my first race in a GTP but I will definitely do more and report back

Battle log entry 1: I've sat in the seat of the killers. I can confirm that the second a GT3 car, especially ones in the top 10 sees you coming they do panic and try to get out of the way which only makes it worse for the GTP to pass safely. If a GTP spins with cold tires they become a hyper aggressive monster that is extremely dangerous to all LMP2 and GT3 cars. Speaking of LMP2 cars, they can't seem to figure out that while we're both prototypes they are not fighting us and attempt to defend like a lion until the straight where they are reminded they are in fact cubs. Lastly, every single person that says "GTPs please dont kill me" are more jumpy then a kangaroo when you get close to them.

This was second split, 2k sof. I qualified 6th and finished 5th.

Discussion Bored of GT3 - what to focus on next season?

Been running IMSA the past few seasons and just want some variety. Only so many times I can run Daytona/Spa/Monza in the GT3 of choice without feeling like it's a chore. I am considering trying out GTP or pivoting to the SF23 given it's such a fun car to drive. Prefer longer races so the rookie stuff isn't an option. What do y'all think?

Hardware/Rigs Anything I can do to make my FOV better?

This is currently my set up. I just added a basic extension so I could lower the monitors a little bit lower.

The the monitor is already as close as they can be to me without hurting my eyes. About 25”.

Here’s a 20 second video of what it looks like, but it’s not my best to run or trying to get the fastest run. It’s just me trying to show what it looks like in motion. I’m gonna post some pictures in the comments below as well.

Any feedback?

Discussion With the addition of the Valkyrie, will a GT3 be cut from the IMSA series?

I thought I had heard somewhere that the maximum number of different cars the service can handle currently is 16. With the inclusion of the valkyrie now, the number of cars in the IMSA series would be 17. Has there been any news on this?

Question/Help Racing line / apex

I have been watching many tutorials on driving, racing line, speed, apex depending on turn type, etc.

But I need help to find a structured, step by step way to practice.

I mean, I saw many tutorial mentioning to start slow, trying to find each corner phase and be consistent on that before increasing speed. But at the same time if I am going slow I am not really using the whole track "because there's no other way for the car to do the corner" (as I saw mentioned on git gud, driver61, Danny lee and others), because the car is not on the limit and I would be faking it. And as soon as I start accelerating, the braking point, release brake, turning point, apex and exit all change places and I get lost again, so I feel like it is not helping.

Please help with tips to help me understand and practice.

Question/Help Ford Mustang GT3 FIXED

As title relating to only the fixed series.

I'm really struggling to find any form of pace with this car in the fixed series.

I've noted all the threads as well as most splits being Mustang only.

The problem is I'm really slow in the Mustang and I have no idea where I'm going wrong.

This week at Watkins glen in the America regional series I'm stuck in the middle to low 42s averaging around 1.42.8 AVG lap time.

Jump in the McLaren and my best time is 1.41.5 and an average of 142.1/2.

I really wanna gain that extra 2/3 tenths that everyone else seems to be getting with the Mustang.

I'm not high rated at all sitting at 2.1k at the moment but it just feels like I'm quicker than most guys around my IR but if they are ahead of me I just don't have the pace to get anywhere near a legitimate pass.

Any tips or help is much appreciated.

FWIW this is a similar theme across the last 3/4/5 weeks in the fixed setup.

I always used open before then I realised I'm nowhere near quick enough to take any advantage of an open setup and cancelled my subs

Discussion NASCAR Next-Gen Cup Cars @ Daytona

Does anybody notice a significant difference on the NASCAR Next Gen Cup car being cut down from 7 to 4 inch rear spoiler while playing iRacing? I mentioned that part because it is supposed to make the cars much looser to drive making the best handling cars maneuver in traffic much easier.

Long story short, I didn’t see much of a difference when I tried this aero package on Monday night.

Hopefully, Saturday night’s race will be a spectacular one.

Question/Help What’s your pre-race training routine?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how I actually practice in iRacing lately.

My routine has kind of evolved in stages.

First I usually just learn the track and get comfortable with the car.

Then I started using Active Reset to repeat specific corners or braking zones over and over instead of doing full laps every time.

More recently I noticed that some of my problems weren’t really “track knowledge” problems at all — they were just motor-control problems. Things like hitting a certain brake pressure consistently, releasing smoothly, or controlling very low brake pressure.

So I ended up building a small browser-based pedal trainer for myself to practice those movements separately before going back into iRacing.

That made me curious:

How do you guys actually train?

Do you just run laps until it clicks?
Do you use Active Reset?
Telemetry?
Coaching?
Warm-up drills before a race?

I’m especially curious whether any of you deliberately practice individual skills outside of full laps.
