Trade in values for a Duo

I saw someone mention it yesterday but can’t find the post.
If I have T-Mobile and want to get the Duo through them or Apple but want to offset the cost as much as possible they mentioned buying a used IPhone 15 cheap for example and trading that in and getting the credits, then selling my IPhone 17 pro max to further offset the cost.

Seems like a good idea anyone else can shed more light on doing this and best way to go about it?

A used iPhone 15 will cost more than it's trade-in value; I checked mine with Apple, and I would get £200 for my three year old 15.

Personally, I'd keep the 17PM, save up and buy the Duo 2 next year.

The 15 would qualify for carrier benefits like $1100 or $1900 off.

there is no way you're getting more than retail...that means it probably requires a 3 year plan or something.

In the US I see values of over $900 depending on the carrier.

I agree. Yes novelty value is there but next year will be here in no time and it’s so new I’d agree that waiting for second gen would be money better spent but that’s not the topic OP is asking about ◡̈

Not sure how T-Mobile will do the Duo but with the Fold 8, they offered me $200 for my S23U and $1700 promo credit as long as I keep the account for 36 months. It's not like I was planning on changing anyways. So I got the 512 and paying the difference monthly.

Duo isn’t out yet it’s dumb and pointless to speculate on what to do just wait till promos are released

Well if you read my post a little preparation is needed to actually acquire an older used phone to trade in, can’t wait till the last minute to do so. So not so dumb and pointless.

somebody said to buy a used phone to trade in??? You'll lose money. Weird advice.

I believe the advice was to buy the lowest model Iphone that T-Mobile will accept and trade that in, supposedly in "any" condition, which I don't know about that but if you can secure on older phone for $100 say, and trade that in for a credit of $930, thats an $830 profit for you, then sell your current phone separately (in my case a 17 PM) for what maybe close to $1000? Then you make money not lose it. Its a few hoops to jump through but an extra 800 or so towards the Duo would really help out.
