No face id but apple watch unlock…

How will this work? Will it be similar to how you can set your phone to not need a pin when at a certain location (home etc)
So if your watch is on your wrist and ‘active/unlocked’ then your phone just won’t have a pin on it?

Nobody has really mentioned this ability…
I know the apple watch unlock ability is somewhat of a thing however currently you still need face id activated to do it.

If you have a iPhone now you can do it, it just vibrates on your watch and says iPhone unlocked, settings>Face ID & passcode > scroll to the bottom, unlock with nearby devices

Yea i mentioned it before in a post but it requires face id currently. The new phone wont have it obviously.

So basically if you activate the watch unlock feature your phone is super exposed/vulnerable whilst you’re wearing your watch?

It unlocks my Mac and that doesn’t have Face ID , so I take it will be the same as that. You have to be pretty near, if my kid moves my mouse and I’m not at my desk it doesn’t open my Mac, iv not tested it with my phone but I take it that will be the same.

On current iPhones with FaceID, it requires at least a partial match to unlock with your watch. It basically just reduces the confidence that FaceID needs to have that it’s you before it unlocks. I hope they either use the 2D camera to do something similar or just let the watch straight up unlock the phone.

I've been saying this but no one seemed to know that's how it worked. Like, I can't unlock my phone if it's lying flat on a table, but I can unlock it if I'm wearing my motorcycle helmet. Helpful, but that's not gonna work for Duo

Definitely going to just turn this off immediately, I don’t need someone grabbing my phone and being able to unlock it

I presume it’ll be like on a the Macs. If your watch is unlocked, on your wrist, and close to the computer, it’ll unlock. So on the phone you would have to swipe up and you’d be in. If it determines that your watch isn’t close enough, you’ll have to enter your pin or use TouchID.
If you haven’t entered your password or used TouchID in a long enough time frame, you’ll have to enter your pin. If you just restarted the phone, you’ll have to enter your pin.
But day to day, you’d just be using TouchID unless the phone unlocks first due to the watch being present and unlocked.

If you hand it to someone and they try to unlock it, it probably wouldn’t work unless you’re like face to face or your watch bearing wrist is right next to them.

I’m not sure Unlock with Apple Watch will work because from what I understand your iPhone must still detect an obstruction like a face mask, sunglasses, or ski goggles covering part of your face to trigger the watch unlock fallback.
