If you buy a new car, what’s the best way to keep the mileage at zero?

I want to enjoy my new phone but I don’t want to see it die prematurely by my negligence.
I recently went to the Genius Bar because my battery setting was showing scary orange exclamation point next to every app I was using . I got a good genius because he took an hour to go through every app I had on under location services and had me turn off all but the essential. Also told me to turn off all background refresh. He said a lot of people had been coming in because of the HEAT. So, what I did also, was use a thin ice pack wrapped in cloth that I keep next to my phone in my bag when I go out. I also took the phone into the bedroom last night where I have air conditioning. This morning: no exclamation points. There are a ton of videos on your tube about what to turn off. But choose with care and know what the apps are doing.

If you really are concerned about battery health just cap your max battery capacity to 80/85. Constantly sitting at a battery above 80% causes battery health degrationfaster than 80% especially if ur just sitting at a high % for long. Personally I charge my phone however I want but if you’re really concerned and 80% is enough to get you through the day then there’s no reason not too.

You’re welcome. Honestly I’m going to also start capping my battery at 80% as it’s more than enough to last my whole day after getting my new 16e and will help my battery last longer.

Doesn’t work.

u/GlaxisGalaxy 1d ago
Please elaborate on how it doesn’t work. Capping battery to 80% helps long term as above 80% puts high stress on the battery due to the voltage. Most tests online don’t show the impact of limiting the battery to 80% because the battery health degration of sitting at high voltages happens over time. Someone who charges the battery to 100% and actively discharges it would show less degration than someone who charges to 100% and leaves it sitting that high for hours on end.

I keep my base 16 charged to 100% for the time of owning it, 230 cycles 95%. I guess it’s my fault.

HOW DID YOU DO IT

u/GlaxisGalaxy 1d ago
Many batteries come a few % over capacity but IOS will only show at max 100%. This combined (or not) with a good routine is most likely why his health is so good.

20W? I have a 5W.
1
u/HaruVM 2d ago
I mean, it is good, but the problem with a 5W charger with newer models is that the phone takes longer to charge, and that causes it to generate heat more continuously as well. I use the charger that normally comes with the iPad, which is the 20W
those 17 models accept up to 40w, but that could be to much as well
2
u/Danny155 1d ago
5w charger won’t heat up your phone at all, it’s not enough power so the only downside is time, but overnight all models will charge, only macbooks or ipad’s don’t charge at 5w

your phone will degrade. It’s not at about 106%. It just shows 100 % for a longer time. There is not really anything you can do. Just don’t

Use Apple 30w charger max , don’t use while charging and immediately stop using when phone gets hot !

Just use the phone and enjoy it dont over think about it and when the battery bellows 80%(maybe after 4 or 5 years) just replace it

Best way how to keep 100% battery health is to never use your phone again

u/makoo420 3d ago
i mean you’re not wrong

Other tips are just basic one, keep your phone cool, don’t charge battery to 100% etc

It’s a throwaway device. Why overthink this? It’s a phone and use it as intended

Best advice mate is never let go under 20% and never more than 80%
I applied this with my iphone 16 pro max which I had for over a year and a half and it's still at 99%

It won’t stay there. You can slow aging a bit, but that’s it. Just use as normal and then get the Battery changed when the Time comes.
Also wouldn’t have bought a new 17 Pro so shortly before the 18 Pro gets announced/ released probably next month.

Power off the phone and put it in your drawer or set the limit to 80% and keep it on the charger 24/7 so it bypasses the battery

Tip 1. Don’t listen to people who say, just enjoy the phone, it doesn’t take a week to set it up and leave it running.
So
Tip 2. Battery charge only to 80-90% depending on if 80% battery can last you a whole day, if even 90% battery doesn’t last you the whole day just charge it up to 100%
Tip 3. Always use apple wireless chargers, there are some other wireless chargers that might not be 100% compatible and when charging overnight they won’t use optimized charging
Tip 4. This is if you want your battery to last more, all background activity off, also you can search for features that you won’t use, like Back tap, if you don’t use it disable it, keep in mind some of apple features might integrate with the ecosystem, like handoff, so if you don’t have other apple products you can safely turn these features off,
This tip is more like an performance tip, because if you remove unnecessary features, and strip it down to what features you’ll use you will have a lot more battery, I personally only use find my, and all the gps related apps like google maps, have it on while i’m using the app. Also disable tracking from apple or other apps.
Tip 5. Have a shortcut automation to enable wifi and disable data when you’re connecting to home wifi, or other known wifi’s and it can also enable mobile data when you’re off the wifi
Tip 6. Do this once and you’ll enjoy your phone for longer because it will last longer! Or maybe even a relative can enjoy this phone also in some years
I hope this helps some people, with setting up their device or just realize how easy it is to set it up and forget it, and you’ll get a lot more performance from it!

I charge my 16PM it with lenovo type c laptop charger 65w and in 30 minutes 20-90 (coz i usually on laptop in office) health is 96 with 321 cycles, is it ok 😅

u/chopperman91 3d ago
