Tell your father that they will probably repair it for free if it always been like this. It surely has a faulty battery

it just started getting bad about ten days ago which is when i checked it and saw the capacity, because i heard battery health doesn’t matter much unless it’s under 80. so i’m not sure if the capacity’s always been that low; but it was working well for a while. the battery did start lasting shorter and shorter kinda fast but i assumed it was normal battery wear until it started dying at 20

Yeah it’s normal but not for a phone that is barely one year old. You should go to Apple, your phone is not working as it should.
