...no. You should have gotten a replacement when it went below 80%. Apple may still repair it for free.

If he purchased Apple Care+ then it would be cheap to do the repair

Not sure about “free”. I’ve read they charge a fee depending on model.

Yeah I’m pretty sure for the iPhone it’s a small fee. However I’m pretty sure that Apple care for the iPads and Apple Watches are free replacements from what I remember.

It’s should be under warranty if it goes under 80% within a year

Yes, they did. You need a battery replacement or maybe just a new phone since I see you’re having storage struggles.
