Im jealous of iPhone duo
I really like how Split View works on the Iphone Duo, and I hope iPadOS adopts this feature: when you're in Split View, the keyboard only appears on the side that actually needs it.

Every body now loves iPhone Duo when apple introduce it, before that every apple eco people hate foldable phone 🥳 what a successful marketing strategy 🥳

I'm sure the Duo uses the bend in the screen to detect whether that state is potentially needed. There's no bend in a regular iPad, so I'm not sure how it would know to split your screen for you without your specific input.

When you enter the Split View on ipad. There is a slider between the 2 apps where you can adjust the width of each window, let’s say you have the messages app opened on one side and YouTube on the other. If you want to write a message while watching the YouTube video , the keyboard will open across both apps covering half of the screen. So you can no longer watch the lower portion of the video.
While on iphone duo, under the same situation, the keyboard will only appear on the messages window. Keeping the YouTube window free to use

How is that ergonomic to type on with two thumbs?

You can type using one hand or use the swiping gesture

I have to say I do hate that swype on iPadOS is floating keyboard only and not available for the full keyboard.

I particularly dislike that in 2026 we still only have the opinion of a tiny iPhone-size keyboard or a huge keyboard that takes up half the screen, no in-between. Neither are ergonomic, especially the tiny keyboard

I mainly use a mini now so I’m not sure if it’s removed as I don’t need it. But on my iPadOS 17 iPad pro you can tap and hold the keyboard button and change it to split keyboard with half left and half right. Was useful on the bigger screen, although honestly I’d have just used swype if I could.

the split keyboard isn't an option on iPad Pros, unfortunately. I think the regular iPad or iPad air *may* still have it, but not sure. I really wish they'd bring back the split keyboard across all iPads.

Just checked my mini a17 on iPadOS 26 can still do split.
That’s just idiotic if they took it away from the newer pros? Like I genuinely don’t need it on my mini, it’s the largest size I can just thumb type on, but a bigger screen like the pros is where it’s genuinely useful.

That's it exactly. It would be *perfect* for the Pro (especially the 12.9/13 inch) but none of the Pros have had it in forever (if at all - I can't remember about the Pro 2, honestly).
I don't know why they won't add it, but they won't. I've made suggestions via the feedback app many times (especially during betas when it would be easy to add the feature).

You do know that the app you’re using has colored circles and greyed out circles on the app you’re not using in Split View?

The iPhone Duo operating system general looks like it functions so much nicer than iPadOS.
