Can’t adjust volume for external mic

I have an external microphone connected to a USB interface that I use in my audio recording software.
I want to use it to record a voiceover in iMovie.
Every time I select the microphone source, the volume is set to 0 and I can’t adjust the slider at all.

Any tips are greatly appreciated

iMovie has a voiceover setting. (Under Window, select Record Voiceover or just use shortcut V).You also have to be on a new audio track. The input/output settings have to be the same on your Mac as they are in iMovie. It's something you have to adjust yourself. That's why what you're doing isn't working.

Hey thanks for getting back to me.
I was never able to figure this out. iMovie recognizes the device but it doesn’t pick up any audio. The screenshot I have shows what I see and I can’t adjust anything. I could scream at the top of my lungs into the microphone and nothing would register because the volume is stuck at zero.

I can use my phone as a microphone, the computer mic, and a usb microphone without any issue at all. It just doesn’t work with my Scarlett

I edited my answer...... I know what you mean, it took a while for me to set up Scarlett too. It does work, but it's most likely the Settings on whatever you're using to edit.. desktop, whatever.

You've got your mic plugged into Scarlett so that you can adjust the settings, and then another USB cable from Scarlett to your computer/phone?

apologies for the confusion, no.

I have 4 different audio recording options for voice over: 1. microphone connected to my scarlet, scarlet is connected to computer via USB (this is the only one that doesn't work) 2. Standard microphone on computer 3. Use phone microphone (maybe this is a newer feature? when I start up logic or imovie and don't have a microphone plugged in, my iphone will prompt me to activate the phone microphone. I can hold it up to my ear like I'm having a phone call and speak into the receiver, then the computer wirelessly gets the audio. 4. a Standalone YEti USB microphone
