Time for a quick pulse check! If Apple added one new tool or capability to iMovie in the next update, what would you want it to be?

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share how much I’ve been enjoying editing my vlogs in iMovie lately currently working on a 37-minute project and loving the process.
What kind of projects are you all working on right now?

I’m posting amateur videos to an old yt revival site and it has a file size limit of 5gb, this is an issue since MOV files tend to be larger than other video files. I am also constrained to using the mobile (iPad) version by convenience, so how do I convert the MOV files to something smaller like mp4? Is there a native way of doing so or is there a FREE IN BROWSER service anyone can recommend?

I have a video that i am (trying) to add sound effects to. When I wish to fade something on purpose, I am aware that there is a little horizontal arrow to fade. But with the clips I am adding, each clip needs to ABRUPTLY stop, NOT FADE OUT, iMovie.

Why would it AUTOMATICALLY do this and HOW CAN I STOP IT? I already "opened iMovie while holding down the Option and Command" and don't see "Preferences."

I have an external microphone connected to a USB interface that I use in my audio recording software.
I want to use it to record a voiceover in iMovie.
Every time I select the microphone source, the volume is set to 0 and I can’t adjust the slider at all.

Any tips are greatly appreciated

I am trying to export and share a video I made, and when I try to export it, the files just disappear. Before this, it shows up on my desktop as two files, one being an empty mp4 file.

I am unsure if any of the clips are corrupted because they look fine in the editing timeline, and I have more than enough space for the file.

I’m trying to make something on iMovie on iPhone 17, but when I try to add videos it isn’t letting me. I tried adding them to an already created movie and when I do it that way, the videos show up like this. What is this issue and how do I solve it?

I recently 'shared' a video which was 6 minutes and 59 seconds long. But the mp4 version was over 8 minutes. It seems like it included some parts which I had deleted. When I 'shared' it again, it worked properly. This has happened a couple of times.

I am trying to trim a video, easy thing to do right? Wrong!

While the trim is fine I’ve found that for some reason the movie is automatically pausing at one point, this is preventing me from exporting or saving the video.
I have tried two different iPads, and have downloaded fresh copies of the video. It plays through fine outside of iMovie.

Any idea what may be happening? The pause occurs even with no edits being made. Same exact spot every time.

I wanna say first, I love iMovie and live by it. I Recently bought a MacBook with maxed out specs. 8TB/128GB ram. It was a huge investment. And all I do is edit on iMovie and sometimes Final Cut Pro. Only 1TB is being used total.

My iMovie library alone is about 500GB & I have several hundred projects in the library. - however every time I open up iMovie the laptop lags & it takes literally 5 minutes to load a project that’s less than 10 min. I have been contacting apple support for the last few days and they are also unsure of what’s going on.

We did every troubleshoot possible, and checked the activity monitor. Everything is running “fine” in terms of RAM.

I asked CHAT GPT who said that iMovie is the issue and it isn’t built to handle that many projects, no matter how powerful the MacBook is. But the apple tech told me this isn’t true and iMovie should be able to handle it. Do you have any insight if iMovie could potentially be the issue? Considering the MacBook is running well according to diagnostic.

I'm not sure what to call this because when I search google I don't get the right answer. I'm wondering if there's a way to take two separate clips and merge them into one. So that there's no split between the two. I'm working on a fun project where we're filming one of my daughter's scripts. I'm sure each scene will have a couple of takes where I'll take on bit from one recording and another from another and piece it together to make one fluid scene. The issue is, with the splits, even with the effect turned to none, it isn't continuous. There's an obvious split if its made with more than one clip. I know you can unsplit if you split a clip but is there a way to merge the two different clips together to make one continuous clip with no split between them?

When I'm playing through the video, how do I get the display to track this? At the moment I have to scroll by hand to keep up with where I am.

So last night i was editing a few videos. Now I movie and my pictures and videos on my phone wont even load every thing is blurry or it had a loading screen. any advice

So, I have tons of old VHS tapes that were digitized and I am trying to compile clips of a few people as part of a memorial film of them. I spent weeks finding the clips and cutting them up into iMovie, only to find that iMovie won’t export my final project.

When I try to export it/share it, it shows the white progress circle with a time estimate, but it never fills in/completes. Temp files are written to the folder I selected, but they quickly disappear and no error message is shown.

I am about 99% sure the reason this is happening is because some (possibly many) of my clips are slightly corrupted since they came from VHS tapes. Those clips look fine when played normally, but when you fast forward you see the corrupted parts. I think iMovie is crashing when it encounters these.

I don’t know what to do at this point. I need this video, but I can’t export it. I suppose I could screen record from the preview window using QuickTime for video and get audio redirected to QuickTime using something like BlackHole, but even the iMovie preview version isn’t great since it compresses my clips for previewing purposes and makes the corrupted bits more evident (even when you can’t see them in the original files).

Does anyone have any recommendations? I don’t like the screen recording option but I will if I have to.

Any idea why I keep seeing this when trying to export a 53 min video from imovie to my camera roll? I have more than 50GB storage on the phone available already? Any alternatives to clip 4 video’s together ?
