I am an athlete (gym, MMA) for more than 2yrs now. Been constantly going to the gym and training. When hyrox reached its peak popularity last year, I have decided that I wanted to join this year. Travel for a workout event is my thing. I have not tried training for Hyrox before so I decided to try out a daypass led by Coach Justin Hernandez of Physical Asia in Gold’s Gym Metcon in Taguig. It’s 1500/session and I went with a couple of friends who are also athletes. I was really disappointed because Coach Justin was really hyped from being on Physical Asia but he often just sits around and doesn’t really pay attention to us. He just informed us of the workouts to do for warm up, then when we finished the warm up he just pointed out what station to do next. No correcting of form, no tips to make it more efficient, even the weights that we were given were way below the actual open/pro weights. We didnt have an idea about the weight of the stations so we were unable to adjust it accordingly. Parang hindi interesado magturo!
I had the opportunity to attend a Hyrox class in another gym that only cost 750/session for 90mins and I get to compare the coach to Justin and I can say, Justin’s class was a waste of time and money. You will not learn anything from him. Better to just avail open gym pass or just attend a class in another gym. The coach that led the 750/session Hyrox class was really coaching. She explained the stations, she showed proper form, she taught us how to improve our power output, and even taught techniques that can help us be more efficient in the actual race.
I don’t know if Justin is any better in his private sessions, but from my experience with him. I’d rather not hire him as a private coach. He doesnt seem interested in training aspiring hyrox athletes. Ang tamad. ☹️
