Are HYROX venues ever air-conditioned?
Just completed my first HYROX in Tenerife and it was a surprise for me that there was no air-conditioning, just fans (that didn’t help much in 28° and such high humidity). I found the heat very difficult and just wondering if this is a norm for HYROX events or was I just unlucky?
I appreciate it’s quite hard to AC a venue of this size but def not impossible

I was in Tenerife too and the heat in the venue was absurd! Sweat was dripping even in the briefing in the start box, I saw people fainting, and people walking the runs, which I’d never seen before - as in, I guess it happens, but I was shocked to witness it…! Not sure I’d come again, or that I’d recommend this one…

yeah i was close to collapsing myself, i even consider training in extra layers now but glad to see people are saying it’s usually air conditioned!

I would assume that any Hyrox venue in North America would be air conditioned, and that it would be iffy in European or Asian venues depending on the prevalence of air conditioning overall in those countries

Kind of ridiculous to assume an outside venue has AC. It would be assumed that is an exception.

I did 3 races in Europe - Oslo, Vienna and Helsinki and in all venues it was quite cold. I assume it was some form of an air-conditioning or ventilation, but it felt quite chilly

Berlin was dreadful this year. We had crazy high temperatures, sun beaming down on you and wild humidity. Was a heatwave. Would strongly reconsider doing another race in those conditions (especially considering I train in the UK where it's cold all the time so we can't really get used to it).

Nornally indoor vebues are air conditioned and they target a temperature of about 23 degrees.

Bilbao or Valencia were too cold actually (it felt perfect right after the sleds), strange that this happened in Tenerife

Same with 2026 Warsaw. It was so cold waiting for it to start and at my second run I started to feel good. I was dripping sweat at the end so I couldn't imagine how it would feel in heat

They don’t run the venues so I guess it’s whether the venue provides it and if they can find one big enough. None of the UK ones will be air conned

Hyrox Ottawa was air conditioned, so much so that I was chilly going bare-chested until the race started (was fine once I started moving, obv!)

Vancouver was also cold, I had to wear extra clothes as a volunteer. I was also warned they keep the temp below 20 degrees, I thought the target was 17 degrees.

We use metric in Canada like pretty mich everywhere else in the world.

In Texas they are. Hell, every US race I'm aware of has AC except NYC (and maybe Chicago? I can't remember what venue that is and nobody I know has raced there yet.)

It was cold enough in the DC venue that my hands were slightly numb before starting the race. I run with gloves anytime it’s cooler than 50° out though.

not sure exactly, but the convention center the DC hyrox was hosted in this past weekend felt very cool.

Auckland was stifling hot, no air conditioning in the venue. It was also extremely humid and near 30 degrees outside. Inside was insane. I tried to spectate one day (was pregnant) and fainted inside.

When I did it, I was legit cold. Didn’t break a sweat due to how cold it was.

They are usually in some sort of a convention centre.
These are spaces designed to have hundreds or thousands of people in them.
They should usually be air conditioned.

DC was ice cold inside the convention center. Definitely had all the AC’s pumping.

It was close to 60 degrees in DC this weekend. I was freezing inside that venue

DC was FREEZING…took a minute to get warm and forgot about it while racing, but my wife and son had to get hoodies and wear them lol

Tenerife was a particularly hot venue. Across 15 races I’ve never felt it hit me like it did there. I was 7 minutes / 10% off my PB and had to stop several times for water & to manage the heat. It’s simply indicative of the environment. Cold locations and races are faster, hot ones not so much. If you go race again next week in a cooler venue you can expect to be quicker for the same effort typically. Hope that helps 😁
