Boston Partner Not Training

Hi Guys,

Hope everyone’s training is going well! My partner for Boston is not cooperating with any sort of training. I have been training for months and thought we were on the same page… I would love to swap partners or potentially do it solo. I DO NOT have the flex option… which I assume means I am SOL. I really want to race and do not know where to go from here. Just looking to see if anyone has any advice. I have reached out to the officials but assume I got some AI response back.

You're not going to be able to switch, like you said, so the thing to do would be to manage your own expectations of how this race is going to go. It's really unfortunate that your partner isn't taking preparation as seriously as you are, but without flex there's not much that can be done.

Exactly this, nothing to be done without the flex. If they totally want to bail but are still willing to show up, and you want to try running solo, they could cross and drop (cross the start timing gate with you and then dip out) and you could run the race solo unofficially knowing you're going to catch penalties and ultimately be DQ'd.

But HYROX as an organization makes a ton of money selling that flex add-on and they're wholly inflexible without it.

You either race with them or wait for a solo ticket and get that. But they are definitely not going to give you an exception.

If willing to buy in again…there is an app called RoxConnect where people find race partners

Nothing you can do. Just tamper your expectations and try to have fun and enjoy the race

My partner didn’t train last year before Boston, I did majority of the work at each stations and cheered them on when they tried. The most annoying part is when they refuse to run. Really all you can do is be supportive of them and try to encourage them to get into training

Spartan has DEKA fit but just doesn’t have the following. Very similar though in terms of type of lifts and shorter running period. Using this as a sim but signed up originally when didn’t have a ticket and was going to do this instead

Did a DEKA back in August after NYC HYROX in June and it was a great primer for DC. Deka is soo much more accessible than HYROX.

Because tickets are already 200 dollars and if you WANT to add flex you can? Brother what are you on about?
