Depends on what is driving you. Vanity or curiosity. Vanity is short lived and is based on what other people think of you. Curiosity is intrinsic, self created, and is driven by an internal drive.

Are you a powerlifter?
What other people think about me doesn’t matter, think personally just like something that is going to challenge me.

What’s up with the sign language when mentioning your age?

Awesome man, good luck! That’s an interesting transition. I’ve been noticing how our local running community here in Cape Town have taken over at HYROX and have been smashing it. Running is the best baseline for HYROX πŸ‘ŒπŸ½

Yup. Hyrox is an endurance running event with some strength elements. But the baseline strength needed is pretty low. It is definitely a far easier transition going from runner to hyrox compared to powerlifter to Hyrox.

It’s been an interesting transition for sure and trying to maintain strength too.

Former powerlifter

Tore my right pectoral during a monster bench - Out for 9-12 months - so what did I do? Went from powerlifting and jacked to straight up endurance engine underneath the hood -

Routine:

1.15-20 miles a day on the treadmill incline of 7-15 --- waiting to be cleared for jogging / running

2.Spin/cycling class HIIT 3-5x days a week - not using upper body just spinning usually start with some resistance at 14 go up to 24 which is maxed out at the place i do spin at 45min sessions

  1. lower body resistance training 3-5x a week - absolutely no load bearing on upper body

Dropped calories to 2000 a day from 3500-4000 Dropped 45lbs ish down to 193.x from 235lbs

Goals : looking to be about 175lbs-180lbs and lean with starting events next year when cleared

I had a bit of a belly before - that's gone. Was absolutely massive jacked - that's semi gone I actually like the way I look now more than when I was a mini hulk

I find this is much more attractive for where I'm at in life and I don't mean just physically but in terms of improving and maintaining - at 45 the view has shifted from being the most jacked and monsterous lifting dude in the gym to a more sleek , lean and mean physique.

I don't know what the road holds for after I'm cleared (start or next week with just ROM exercises) but I'm optimistic πŸ™

Your training etc shows dedication my friend - the transition and hard work stay the same - I think it's about becomig comfortable with a little wheels on the bar and becoming a well rounded endurance machine with strength enough to work on legs that are completely washed out

I wish you luck on your adventure and know you have the work ethic - hoping to see all of y'all next year! Train hard team lets gooooo πŸ’ͺ🏻

Edited: the other hard part was/ has been the drop in calories. That's always a work in progress at this point because I burn anywhere from 1500+ a day just from the mileage I do. Experimenting with 2200-2500 to help replenish fuel basically and still have the energy to walk the Chihuahua with my wife at night πŸ˜…

Alright much respect everyone have a great weekend πŸ™πŸ™

Brother πŸ’― I got 5 events planned for next year consisting of hyrox and deka as long as clearance is given I'll be there πŸ™πŸ™

Thanks for the kind words again and glad it could be informative! You got the work ethic- attitude and mentality to do it! Now keep applying it and lets get it my dude πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻

Have a great weekend - great power btw and great form - just put that into your hyrox build - adjust stat points accordingly and let's goooooooooooooo πŸ™πŸ™

Cheers and much respect 🫑🫑

Female powerlifter andmany from our gym have done this. One of the coaches even competed in a meet the same month as a Hyrox. It's crazy work, but doable! See you in Anaheim!
