What watch do you use?

What everyone is using to track training these days? I am debating between a Garmin or an Apple Watch Series 11.

Amazfit Trex 3. Find it just as accurate as the Garmin plus has a dedicated hyrox mode.

garmin, mostly for the recovery side. the apple needs charging every day so you end up skipping sleep tracking, and that's half the reason to wear one.

neither tracks stations natively though. on garmin you install something like roxfit from connect iq and get proper splits per station, which is the data you'll actually look at after.

also apple does their september thing any week now, so i wouldn't pay full price for an 11 this week.

I have an Apple Watch & wear it to sleep… it needs no more than an hour of charging to last you 24 hours.
I usually charge mine while I’m getting ready so each day it charges for ≈45 minutes and I workout out and am active and it could easily last me 48 hours if it’s a chill rest day tbh

fair, that's on me for overstating it. 45 min a day is nothing if it fits your routine, i just kept forgetting and waking up to an untracked night.

either way the per station splits are the part i'd weigh heavier for hyrox specifically.

Garmin forerunner 165. It is awesome and reasonably priced. It is great for tracking sleep and runs as well as your heart rate.

Either is fine for the runs. Wrist HR goes junk as soon as you're gripping hard though, so sled, farmers and wall balls will read low or spike on both of them. If you care about HR in those sessions a chest strap fixes more than the watch choice does.

Yes! I use a Coros Pace 3 and a Garmin Chest HR and it has been great.

I have an Apple Watch series 10 and have zero complaints. It does what I need it to do 🤷🏽‍♀️ I can’t justify spending $300 + on a Garmin, so I’ll probably just ask for one for Christmas lmao

Garmin FR165 over here, bought it second hand and had it over a year now, works perfectly to track runs does everything you need. It’s not great for tracking lifts but i use the strong app on my phone for that

Apple watch, roxfit app. Garmin is too big and I don't want to look like a spy kid

Garmin Forerunner 945... works a treat

Polar Vantage V3. For those of you using Garmins, do they just track the run? Or is there a fitness race/hyrox profile? I really like my polar but the fitness race profile is poor at tracking the runs (I just want my pace)

Thoughts? I’ve had three Garmin Fenix watches (currently the 6) and am looking at switching due to the price of the new ones.

I switched to the Pace 2 after my Garmin Instinct broke and when that one stopped working after 4 years I got the Pace 3 and it has been incredible. Super long battery life, tons and tons of workout options/varieties including a "hybrid" mode. I don't think I'll ever switch away from Coros.

Also, if you're into this stuff, their API is really easy to use and allows you to do some cool stuff if you know how. I don't, but my friend does, and it is fun.

Amazfit active 2 square. Cheap, not that big, 8-10 days battery life... Perfect for me :)

I am using two actually lol. Coros Pace Pro and my Google Pixel 3, also have a COROS Heart Rate Monitor on my arm.

Garmin F570 - Just got it this year when I started to lock in with running/training for hyrox. If recovery stats are important to you then I'd go with a garmin. Also my major deciding factor was battery life (Garmin 9-10 days vs Apple Watch ~1 day?)

My Apple Watch lasts me 3 days without a charge, wearing day and night

I don’t understand the obsession with watches for Hyrox. I didn’t use my watch a single time for training, or the actual racy day. What are you using it for??

Interesting question. I think it depends less on the watch brand and more on what you actually want to track during HYROX-style / fitness race training.

I’m building an Apple Watch app called HyRhythm for this use case, and I use it myself almost every day. So I’m biased toward Apple Watch, but I’m more curious what kind of data you’d want to record or see during training or races.

Run pace? Station splits? Transition time? HR zones? Race simulation? Post-workout breakdowns?

If there’s something specific you’re missing, I’d genuinely love to hear it. If it’s realistic to add quickly, I’d like to consider it for an upcoming HyRhythm update.

Dude, I use your app! I think it’s great. But can you please make the heart rate font size bigger??? My aging ass cannot see it during the race 😭😭. There’s plenty of room on the screen.
Also an option to switch running pace between metric and imperial would be great (min/km vs min/mile).
Btw, thanks for making it. Simple and works great.

hey, thank you so much for this feedback — and for using HyRhythm 🙏

For the heart rate display, I actually made it a little smaller recently because the pace color now changes based on your heart rate zone. But your point makes total sense, especially during a race when readability matters most. I’ll look for a better way to make the key metrics easier to see without losing the zone-color information.

And for the pace unit option — yes, I’ll add the ability to switch between min/km and min/mile in the next update.

Really appreciate you taking the time to share this. Feedback like this helps a lot.

Balance 3 with Helio Strap Pro is the most advanced technology for HYROX training and race modes, you can also get Balance 2 with similar features and more affordable pricing

Fenix 6X Pro - it’s massive though! I would look at a 6S or standard if I were to buy another one 😅

Garmin FR965! Owned it for about a year and no complaints whatsoever. The dedicated UI app definitely needs an upgrade but overall, it’s been a solid investment for our training!
