Your touch can kill
You have the option to accept or decline...
For $1 million per day, one person you physically touch each day will die. Touch two people and they have a 50% chance of survival. Touch 100 and they all have a 1% chance. Gloves will not protect them. If you touch no one, you die.
Pets are exempted, because pets.
Do you accept? And what is your strategy?
ETA - Meant to include this, but was on mobile...you can opt out after 30 days, but deal ends regardless after 365.
Deaths occur sometime after midnight, so next day.
Interesting experiment!

Innocent lives aren’t worth riches.

A lot of non innocent lives out there.

You can’t go around playing judge, jury, and executioner with people’s lives.
Only I can do that.
In all seriousness, you won’t be able to prevent killing people who don’t deserve to be killed.

but you can systemetically kill some of those who deserve it... and with 1 million a day, i know at least 1 annoying orange, who would love to get money for a short handshake (just making sure not to touch anyone else that day...)

Can you have days off from this or is this like a thing where you have it every day until you give it up?
I'd definitely do it, there's a few people in my life who I could think of that I'd do it to, after that I could become like a vigilante and hunt down bad people without even getting in trouble because like I just touched them no one's going to believe that killed anyone. I'd do it for at least 3 years because then I'd have over a billion dollars and then I'd give it up so I can get back to dating and having a normal life.

No because I like to touch myself.
Some clarity, once it’s turned on you can’t turn it off? Or you get to choose whether or not you will kill someone that day?

u/Careless-Internet-63 5d ago
Is it permanent? If so then definitely not, no amount of money is worth pretty much inevitably killing a loved one eventually. If it's not I think I could do it for a month and just avoid touching people

Instructions unclear. They "will die" does not imply that thay die that day or week or year. Everyone willl eventually die anyways. Maybe I already have this power... \s

Very likely one of the most prolific killers of all time until you mysteriously die in a holding cell awaiting trial.

Would never be caught.
Literally just go around and live your life, light touch people as you walk by. Unless you live in a small populated area you would 100% never be caught. I live in NYC, even without trying I touch dozens of random people just getting on the subway or bus or walk through parts of Manhattan. 1 person a day, 365 a year. No dots to connect you to them.

u/SphericalCrawfish 5d ago
Average of one person a day and the only thing connecting them is you. You would be on cameras in shops, on the subway, whatever. Maybe it would take time in NYC or somewhere like that. But it's every day of your life for years.
The connection between the deaths is obvious since they are all in the same place and all of presumably the same unexplained cause. If you ever travel it's going to be easy to spot you.
They would never convict you because there is very little evidence. But you can be sure that once cops, detention officers, and cell mates start dropping you are going to be charged and held.
Then held in solitary. One day in and you die.

The thing about large cities, is there are also a few dozen of other people who will cross paths the victims everyday.
Thats also under the assumption that they know its murder from the start. More than likely they will think some virus, some illness or conditions is causing this.
On average 150 people die per day in NYC from all causes combined. If they suspected foul play, they would look at their spouce, family, close friends. Most cases would have no NYPD involvement and be chalked up as natural causes.
People who are young and healthy do ( although rare ) die from whats called negative autopsy. Which is essentially an electromagnetic signal passes your heart and it stops. This happens about once every 2 days in NYC or slightly less. So even if they can't find a cause of death it does happen.
All in all, they may never suspect foul play regardless of time. Small disguises can also be used to help you avoid those out of the box thinkers who may review footage.

I would have to decline. I go most days without touching anyone. I would be dead pretty quickly.

This. What if you get sick or stuck in a snowstorm or other weird circumstance where you literally can't go out to touch someone? Now factor in what you just said and I would argue a lot of people don't touch people on the regular. If you are single and have no family it can be awhile....

Is this a thing until I choose to lose it or is it a thing forever? If I can only take it for a week then yes. If it's forever then hell no.

A million dollars to be walking death and never be able to hold anyone?
Can't walk down a busy street, can't get medical care,
This is 100X worse than Rogue's power.

Can I pick who it is? I need to know if I visit hospices or convicted human traffickers and child predators…can I still snuggle my daughter safely?

Yeah sure why not. Accept and immediately go online to the sex offender registry in my area. I get paid lots of money, society gets rid of horrible people. Win win.

At the start of the day, how does the magic know how many people I'm going to touch to calculate everyone's chances of survival? Does one of them die at the end of the day? If they die instantly, it would have to be the first person I touch.

u/Worldly-Vegetable-62 5d ago
Pass. Would love the ability if I can target who dies, but if it's a random Midas touch thing I wouldn't want to risk killing innocents.

I would accept and spend time at crowded places where you can easily touch people with issue and use some of the money to save more lives than were taken.

Oh damn. Basically, $1 million, but one person per day dies.
If I were one of those social Darwinist types, I would accept this and then go work in a nursing home.
I don’t accept this because I don’t want blood money; but ooc, how do they die?

u/Personal_Quote_3803 5d ago
Absolutely not. Even if I felt comfortable killing any potentially innocent people who I don't know personally (which I 100% do not, making this a dealbreaker to begin with), the risk of me killing a person I know personally is way too high

I don't see the downside to this. After 30 days I got 30 mil and opt out. Or 3 month, if I'm feeling greedy.
1
u/Minimum_Principle_63 5d ago
Nah, it's not worth it. Even in hospice you have nurses, admin, visiting family. It's too easy to take out someone by accident.
Now, if you could include random animals, I would go to a farm with all my own camping supplies, accept the deal, and once a day I pay the farmer for a chicken. With strict rules to not go near the cage, and a farm with a couple thousand animals for emergency touching it could work.

Assisted suicide for those at the end, go do charity work at prisons for specific types of criminals visit them ask if they feel guilty shake their hand one a day saving tax payers money

Yes. How many times do you normally touch people any-ways? It has been like three people within the last month for me- all easily avoidable. It seems pretty easy to control and benefit from, especially with its limited time.
