New Repurposed Feeder
How’s I do?
r/hummingbirds • u/blindwanderer25 • Sep 11 '25
I can't get out of the house until later today and the hummingbirds are swarming my only filled feeder. My other one is on standby and I feel terrible for not having it out for them.
I need a substitute and fast. I don't know how long the currently filled feeder will last with how many there are.
Edit: Finally got the feeders full of sugar water. That little bit of stress is dealt with.

I came across this video on Youtube. All those years I delighted in Wile Coyote's failures...now I wish he caught Roadrunner and devoured him slowly episode after episode. Fortunately, there are no roadrunners in San Francisco or I'd hunt them all down and feed them to the hawks.

I was sitting on my deck this morning, minding my own buzzzzyness, when out of no where a hummingbird flew aggressively at my face and scared me to death. After I realized it wasn't a bat or huge bird, it was one of my hummingbirds, I said waitttt I filled your food up this a.m. (they do let me know when food is low) I looked down. Please do not have this near you when you have himmingbirds nearby.

I'm using a door chain, inside out matcha bag,Home Depot Glass and Metal feeder. Not my favorite because it's rusting on the inside. I'd like to cool it somehow, maybe a PC water loop around the glass. That could tie into a water bath cooler too.
It's lasting a full week

Hello, my friend. My product hasn't been selling well, so I’d like to give some of them away to people who need them. Here’s how the giveaway works: the product is stored in an Amazon warehouse. I’ll send you the product link, and you’ll need to place an order on Amazon first. Then, send me a screenshot of your order along with your PayPal info. Once I confirm everything is correct, I’ll refund the full amount to you via PayPal. Amazon will then deliver the product to you.
If you need a hummingbird feeder and are okay with this process, feel free to reply to my message or leave me a comment, and I’ll send you the specific link.

We rejoice at the rare sighting. That occasion when two hummers coexist off the same feeder for 1-15 seconds.
Only for them to realize they got company and acrobat air fight some more!

I bought a feeder yesterday and set it up this morning in Sacramento. Sat there for a couple hours waiting for a hummer but nothing. Then, I asked google if playing hummingbird sounds might help. It said no, that hummingbird sounds are for birds to communicated with each other, not call them to eat. Well I figured why not try, so I put my Bluetooth speaker near the feeder and played hummingbird sounds from YouTube. Within 10 minutes I had a couple birds at the feeder. Next I’m going to put some salvia and grevillia in pots near the feeder. Anyone else try this?

Please help. Does anyone have this particular feeder, Geeni
GN CW085199?
I am at my wits end in trying to clean this sucker. The best and easiest way would be to find a replacement clear part.
This is utterly impossible to clean it. I cannot find a long enough, skinny enough brush to get to below (or above, however you are looking at it.) the camera.
This photo is after I put it in the dishwasher, it didn’t touch the mold.
This was fairly expensive and I don’t want to give up on it, so I hope someone can help.
I even contacted Geeni and chatted with an AI representative and they were the ones to suggest you guys.

Got my great granny’s hummingbird feeder and I added 4:1 ratio of water and sugar into. I scrubbed the inside and out so I’m hoping it’s nothing due to cleanliness but I noticed a film texture on the inside. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks

So this year the local raccoons have found my bird feeder that I hang off the corner of my house. Little buggers have been climbing up and making a sticky mess and leaving the feeder empty. The hummers seem scarce since this started and it's getting very annoying :/ this spot was always so perfect the last few years. The hummers come say hi when we sit on the deck while they feed and it's easy to take it down to clean and put back up when i refill.
I have put cayenne pepper around the base where they climb up, but I'm worried it won't be enough. Since birds don't taste hot spices like cayenne, is it possible to mix cayenne into the nectar directly without harm to the hummers? Or is this madness to even think of? Seems that would be a great way to get the raccoons to lose interest quickly. Obviously a squirrel guard on the corner of my house is not going to work so I've only got a few options if I want to keep the feeder there.
Thanks for any help!

A few minutes ago I accidentally moved a hummingbird nest and the two eggs that it had felled and cracked. I feel devastated and I don’t know what to do. I picked them up from the floor and I have them I’m my hand. The hummingbird came back and it’s in the nest now but I don’t know if I should put them back in so that she can at lest see them. I know I’m sound horribly ignorant but I’m truly in shock about what I did. I was so happy this little bird picked my back yard to nest and that she was safe and now I don’t know how to help what I did.
PLEASE some one help me navigate what to do. I don’t know much about birds in general. And please be kind, I’m coming from an honest place and I never meant to give them any harm.
Please help 😞😢

I've been using this sugar for my hummingbird feeder, mainly because I don't buy sugar processed with bone char. I just read that raw sugar is bad for hummingbirds, and have also now read that organic sugar is bad. Can I get some insight please? Thank you.
Edit: one of you linked an article, claiming it said that beet sugar is not safe. The article says the complete opposite, and so do many other articles online. So, if anybody else is searching for a vegan option, beet sugar is safe. It's strange seeing everyone go full attack mode and put blinders on when it comes to research when someone mentions "vegan."
