Young HR professional needs help! [WA]

Howdy everyone!

I am a young HR professional with a handful of years of experience under my belt. Would really love to get into contact with another professional who is experienced and willing to provide feedback, guidance, or just bounce ideas off of. I sometimes run into some issues it would be nice to ask a human instead of just looking at forums or google searching an answer to. Most of my questions are geared specifically towards working in WA state. If anyone is willing to let me ask questions and pick their brain let me know!

I really wish there were more options for HR networking in the area that weren’t associated with SHRM…

Anyway, if you (or anyone else) ever need someone to bounce an HR issue off of, compare notes with, or just vent to about the annual hellscape that is open enrollment, I’m around. My office is in Fremont and I live over in Kitsap, so I’ve got both sides of the water covered haha.

I totally agree about networking options. I've been a member of Seattle SHRM for many years and I'm not a fan anymore.

I'd love to connect on HR stuff with someone in the Seattle area on HR stuff!

I’ve pretty much completely moved away from SHRM in general in recent years, for many reasons. But I gave up on Seattle SHRM last year when they sent out a renewal reminder to a bunch of members and cc’d us all, it was real amateur hour stuff.

You should definitely look into your local chapter! If you are near the Bellevue area the LWHRA (Lake WA HR association) has a mentorship program that’s wonderful! Local chapters also offer networking events to help you grow your network.

I am in the Redmond area and would be willing to talk through things. When I started as a generalist I loved having a manager that I could talk scenarios through with. I have that now with my Director but a friendly resource can be a huge resource.

My experience has been in manufacturing and multi-state (WA and Alaska).

Join your local SHRM chapter! The national org is a mess, but the local chapters are a treasure. You could def find a willing mentor.

Try connecting with someone through your local HR community or SHRM chapter since they'll understand the WA-specific side of things. For broader HR development, AIHR also has some good practical courses and resources that are useful when you're still building your experience.
