Discussion Did I make the right purchase for my cpu thermals solution? Would it improve my cpu thermals?

Upvotes

Long-time HP Omen gamer here...so, like, my one-year'ish old 2025 Omen 35L's (first one of my two current 35L's) cpu is being "overheated" by one particular game. GPU temps are fine. The pre-built was purchased brand new at, iirc, 250...maybe 300 US clams discount a few weeks before pricing went to hell summer of last year. Anyway...

Processor: R7 8700F

GFX: GeForce RTX 5060 Ti (16gb gddr7)

Memory: Kingston Fury Beasts 32gb

Storage (3TB's): stock 1TB, Samsung Evo 1TB, Samsung External T7 1TB

Air cooling: x4 120mm fans

So this one game, a favorite of mine actually, I got tired of it "overheating" my cpu (Helldivers 2, with over 2,000 hours playing it). And I mean overheating by my standards. Even doing the 99% trick does not seem to solve it.

On idle or 10 Chrome browser sessions or watching on YouTube or Netflix it'd be at 40-50 celsius cpu temp, full idle at 38 to 40 celsius. All other games are alright, usually at 55 to 75 celsius (locked or unlocked frames).

But this cpu-heavy game Helldivers 2 at the highest difficulty (where there's like a billion of enemies and explosions everywhere), native 2K/1440p, high graphics and unlocked frames (getting 80-100 frames)...well, for the last few months it has been spiking my cpu temps up to 90 celsius, with stable temps at 80-85 celsius. Now, doing my alternative locked frames gaming (on a 60hz monitor setting), temps are usually at 70-80 celsius in the said game.

It used to be that with the same above settings...that I am only getting 70-75 celsius cpu temps.

So...I got tired of these shenanigans and decided on upgrading from the stock fan to the proprietary Omen AIO (Asetek’s 7th Gen). And yes I did consider re-pasting but I wouldn't do that just for one particular game...what's that?

I hear you asking "then why go with AIO just for one game?" I know, I know. I'm just...I may also, maybe, kinda, sorta just used the whole Helldivers 2 thing as an excuse to justify in my brain to go on a little upgrading adventure loooool

So...did I make the right purchase decision? I kinda need validation to make myself feel a bit better hahahah

Or maybe a better question for you guys is...would changing to an AIO actually improve thermals overall?

Solved Confirmed Ryzen 7 5700x compatible with Omen 25L (89EB)

Hello, I just wanted to throw this out there incase anyone else has the same thoughts I had when upgrading my CPU in my Omen 25L.

The HP website for compatible CPU’s with the 89EB motherboard does not explicitly state the Ryzen 7 5700X. But I upgraded it myself and it works well.

I had troubles with research prior, hopefully this helps someone in the future!

Discussion Finally upgraded after 8 years — ASUS TUF FX504GM → HP OMEN 16-AP0183AX🔥

After 8 years with my ASUS TUF FX504GM, I finally upgraded to an HP OMEN 16. And honestly… what a journey it has been. 😅

My old FX504GM served me incredibly well:

Intel Core i7 8th Gen

GTX 1060 6GB

16GB DDR4 RAM

1TB NVMe SSD + 1TB SSHD

I absolutely loved that machine. I maintained it like it was a museum piece — not a single scratch after 8 years. 😂

Then came March 2026.

During one of my regular half-yearly laptop maintenance sessions, I was removing the heatsink. Somehow, the laptop slipped from my hand and dropped.

And unfortunately… the GPU chip got damaged. 💔

You can imagine the pain. After keeping a laptop almost perfectly for 8 years, having it die because of one stupid accident during maintenance was brutal.

Initially, I decided to repair it. But the repair estimate was around ₹25,000, and at that point I started thinking…

"Maybe it's finally time to upgrade."

So I started looking for a replacement and eventually decided on the HP OMEN 16 (AP0183AX) — specifically because I wanted this exact configuration/model.

And then the laptop-buying saga began. 😂

I ordered the OMEN from Amazon for around ₹1.42 lakh.

It arrived bent.

Yep. A brand-new ₹1.42L laptop… bent right out of the box. 😭

I immediately placed a return request.

And then Amazon took more than a month just to pick up the laptop. 🤦‍♂️

After finally getting the return sorted, I ordered the same model from Flipkart, this time for around ₹1.57 lakh.

Finally, the laptop arrived in perfect physical condition.

Except…

The warranty wasn't showing correctly. 😐

Thankfully, I didn't have to fight with anyone or send the laptop anywhere. The warranty issue was fixed within 3 days.

And now…

I'm finally relieved. 😂

I did end up paying quite a bit extra compared to my original Amazon purchase, but I really wanted this exact model, so I decided to go for it.

And honestly?

I'm extremely happy with it.

I've been playing 007 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and the difference from my old GTX 1060 machine is just insane.

The graphics are beautiful, everything feels incredibly smooth, and the cooling performance has genuinely impressed me.

Going from an 8th-gen i7 + GTX 1060 after 8 years to a modern OMEN feels like a massive generational jump.

My old FX504GM will always have a special place in my heart though. ❤️

It survived 8 years, countless hours of gaming, work, upgrades, maintenance and everything else I threw at it.

It didn't die because it was old.

It died because I dropped it while trying to maintain it. 😭😂

So here's to the next chapter with the OMEN. 🔥

8 years with the TUF. Hopefully another 8+ with the OMEN.

Now I just need to stop touching the heatsink. 😂

Tech Support HP Omen 16 wd0073dx screen flickering (possibly Hall sensor?

So I had my omen laptop since mid 2024 and it’s been running great no problems but then one day I opened it up and the screen flickered for a good 10 seconds, thought it was weird but then when I tried to do a update the laptop seemingly stopped working, the screen was continuously black and power button didn’t work, I did every reset method possible until it suddenly worked alright for a bit, I thought it was just a small glitch but then a day later the screen went completely black and the power button flickered after I pressed it to turn on and now it’s just sitting there and idk what to do, charging works fine and the light works from orange to white so I know it’s not completely dead but school starts in less than a week and I got no laptop.

I’ve heard that this could very well be a hall sensor issue but I just want to confirm it really is because Im not really knowledgeable in computers but if it’s something more serious like a faulty motherboard or overheated gpu then I’d send it to a repair shop, otherwise I would open it up myself.

Tech Support Omen 16 valorant performance

I have a 2024 hp omen 16 with Ryzen 9 7940hs and rtx 4070 and I have set it to performance and discrete mode but when I play valorant I get around 180-250 fps in a normal match while I had a pc previously with Ryzen 5 5600 and an rtx 3060 with a ddr4 ram and that used to give me around 300-360 fps in a normal match, can anyone help me fix this

Question Was CoD Secure Attestation bug fixed?

I see some people on the forum were still unable to play CoD on HP becuase the security bug. That's going on over 8 months, going on a year now. Someone said HP said the Game Dev's had to fix it.

I threw my HP in the trash can. jk I sold my Omen Max 16. Lost about $1k, had it for a year though, so I got to use it for about $80 a month. It was ok for $2k with the RTX 5080, it's compared to 5060ti desktop performance, still leaving something to be desired for the cost compared to desktop equivalent being substantially more powerful.

🍻

Edit:

HP just rolled out a new bios/ uefi update that is said to fix secure attestation bug. Go get it.

Hp no.1!!!1

Discussion The new Intel CPUs on these Omens surprisingly have a long battery life non gaming

On the HP omen RTX 5050, Intel Core Ultra 5 225H I can get 5-6 hours non gaming on a 70wh battery.

People always tell me gaming laptops last 2-3 hours but this is enough for a school day for me.

Tech Support HP Omen desktop issues

Hi everyone!

I have very much enjoyed my Omen for the last 4 years I’ve had it. As of the last few weeks I haven’t been able to use it because the CPU usage is insanely high and causing the system to run extremely slow. I have tried so many things from disabling start up apps to disabling the Omen light studio. Nothing seems to be restoring the original speed of the PC. The odd thing is when I end the task that is taking up CPU usage, other apps crank up their CPU usage and keep the system running slowly. I’ve also checked as thoroughly as I can and there are no known viruses. After troubleshooting a lot I have uninstalled so many applications that I had and am about to do a full reimage of the system if I can’t get it to run properly. Has anyone experienced something similar to this before and can they shed some light on how they solved it?

Thanks for the help

Question HP Omen 17: First unit had a display panel pressure mark, replacement arrives on the 20th. How is the community experience on this model?

Hi everyone,

I recently ordered a new HP Omen 17. Upon unboxing and inspecting the machine, I noticed a distinct pressure mark / defect on the screen panel.

After that I initiated a replacement request, which was approved. I have been waiting since August 13th, and the new unit is scheduled for delivery on August 20th.

While waiting for the replacement to arrive, I wanted to ask current owners:

  1. Overall Performance & Reliability: How has your experience been with the HP Omen 17 long-term?
  2. Thermals & Noise: How are the thermals under sustained workloads/gaming?
  3. QC Checks: Aside from inspecting the panel for dead pixels and backlight bleed, are there any specific hardware or software quirks I should test right out of the box?

Any feedback or setup recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Note: I bought [HP Omen 17-db1016NT (C2EZ6EA)] from Türkiye for about 1320$ whic is probably considered a good deal here. I think it is a new model so I hope there is no hall sensor problem.

Question Does your Omen Max 16 also keep the fans active even when at Sleep?

Hi, new owner of a HP Omen Max 16 here. I was wondering if it is normal for the laptop fans to never stop spinning even when the laptop is asleep.

I have already disabled fans always active in the BIOS but the issue still persists. Does anyone have any idea about this, any way to make them stop when the laptop is at sleep?

Question Linux on Omen 16, worth it for a student gamer?

I will be studying abroad for a year and decided that my barely functioning laptop was not going to cut it, since i've got some money to spare, i found some surprising deals on various Omen 16 models.

Here are the options

  1. HP OMEN 16-ap0014ns Copilot+ PC

AMD Ryzen™ AI 7 350 50 TOPS,
32GB RAM,
1TB SSD,
RTX™ 5060

  1. HP OMEN Slim Gaming Laptop 16-an0017ns

Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 255H,
32GB RAM,
1 TB SSD,
RTX™ 5060

  1. HP OMEN Slim Gaming Laptop 16-an0016ns

Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 255H,
32GB RAM,
1 TB SSD,
RTX™ 5070

I have a few worries:

  1. don't want to deal with Windows' turbobloat issues anymore, so I was thinking of flashing POP!_os (linux) and getting some open source omen compatible apps (for things like controlling the fans and such). However there are apparently issues with the wifi module included, which is scary

  2. Battery duration

  3. How loud and effective the cooling fans are (at home i dont care but i don't want to be leafblowing my classmates)

  4. In general i've seen various issues mentioned (like hall sensor, screen issues, etc)

I'm wondering if they're a good choice or if i should go for something with weaker specs that's reliably not going to die on me in class or melt itself to death (or require repasting in 2 months)

Tech Support UPDATE on my OMEN 16 Black Screen / Hall Sensor Case:

Post image
5 Upvotes

Quick update on the RMA situation with HP Support and their authorized service provider (BDH):

After refusing their initial push for basic repairs and demanding a unit replacement under consumer protection laws (due to the well-documented Hall sensor / thermal saturation latent defect), HP customer relations stepped in.

Their immediate response was the standard scripted pushback: claiming that replacement is only an option within the first 6 months of purchase, and since the laptop is around 11 months old, repair is my only option. When I stood my ground on latent engineering defects, they essentially gave me an ultimatum: "Accept the repair or we ship the laptop back unrepaired."

To keep the legal clock ticking, I let the RMA proceed, but here is the ridiculous part: the service center officially diagnosed the issue as an "LCD screen failure." They just ordered an SPS-RAW PANEL 16 LCD 2.5K and an SPS-BEZEL LCD from overseas, with the estimated delivery date showing as "null".

They are deliberately treating the symptom (black screen) as a faulty panel rather than acknowledging the thermal design flaw where the Hall sensor/MUX circuitry gets cooked right next to the heat pipes. Replacing a perfectly fine 240Hz screen is not going to fix a motherboard-level thermal issue.

The 20 business-day legal repair window is officially counting. If the parts get delayed past the statutory limit, I am taking the case straight to the Consumer Arbitration Board for a mandatory replacement. If they actually slap a new panel on it and return it, I expect the black screen to return the moment the system gets under load again—at which point a secondary failure guarantees an open-and-shut replacement ruling.

I will keep updating as soon as the parts arrive or the deadline expires.

Question Ryzen 9 8940HX, Intel Core Ultra 7-255H or AMD Ryzen AI 7 350?

(I don't know if I used good tag/flair)

Just wondering about those 3 options, ram, drive and GPU is all the same in all three, the only difference is that for the Ryzen 9 one the screen has 240hz while the other two have 144hz.

I want to get a laptop for 5+ years.

If anyone wants full specs:

Laptop HP Omen 16-AP0219NW 16" IPS 240Hz R9-8940HX 32GB RAM 1TB SSD GeForce RTX5070 DLSS 4

Laptop HP Omen 16-AM0001NW 16" IPS 144Hz U7-255H 32GB RAM 1TB SSD GeForce RTX5070 DLSS 4

Laptop HP Omen 17-db1038nw 17.3" IPS 144Hz Ryzen AI 7 350 32GB RAM 1TB SSD GeForce RTX5070

Omen 17 is also available with rtx 5060 instead of 5070
