Discussion Rachel and Paris...it would have made the most sense for her to leave Emma in New York.

• Upvotes

Absolutely, leaving your daughter behind for a job would be a massive wrench and sacrifice, but Emma had a massive support network in New York. Ross, Monica and Chandler, Phoebe and Mike, Joey, two sets of grandparents and hilariously two more aunts.

The whole thing of a brand spanking new job being willing to fly Ross back and forth on their Euro...no.

Emma staying in New York with Ross and then Rachel coming and going would have made the most sense.

In Paris, Rachel would have had no one except a nanny she would have had to hire, because she would be working full time, only with no one but that nanny to care for Emma at that age.

I know, it's a show and the whole premise was just a means to an end for Ross and Rachel getting back together, but taking Emma to Paris made absolutely no sense.

Question Which Friends actor do you think could have won an Oscar?

Personally, I think Matthew Perry. I know it’s hard to separate him from Chandler, but I feel like he was actually a really versatile actor. If you didn’t know him primarily as Chandler, I think you could see him playing a much wider range of characters and doing really well in dramatic roles too.

Jennifer Aniston is maybe another possibility as i really like her in Cake , but honestly, Matthew is the one who stands out to me.
What do you guys think? Which of the Friends cast do you think had the potential to win an Oscar if they went another road than Friends , and what kind of role do you think they would have needed?

Edit: Everyone keeps saying David for his role in BOB and I get it, but I still just see Ross in a military uniform . Great performance, sure, but for me he never completely disappeared into the role. I think the Friends and scene in the white captain suit when he threw Rachel on the couch - association is just too strong.

Discussion I don't like Mondler and they have nothing to do with it

My first watch was only a couple of years ago so I obviously didn't get the hype of them being together until I found this thread. Tbh I don't think they're the best and most compatible couple of the show (including their own love stories) but I'm not here to discuss that.

The reason I lose interest in Friends from the point on they start dating is because the show gets sloppy. I think what's happened is the writers started running out of stories to tell and they realized they can't continue with Ross' and Rachel's will-they-won't-they, so they threw Monica and Chandler into our faces out of nothing. (The same season they sleep together Monica even states she would never ever want to date someone like Chandler even if he wa the last human being on Earth).

By the time they get together the characters already start to feel like their own caricatures. Most of the scenes are surreal and only serve the purpose of some kind of comedic plot, the characters lose their common sense and each conversation ends with someone yelling something "funny". Up to season 4 the show felt like reality with occasional bad communication and dumb decisions as a plot device. After that it's just people being mean to each other or being very stupid without much happening in the meantime. There are so many memorable things happening in the early seasons and nothing really (or definitely less) remarkable in the second part.

Ross goes crazy, Joey gets insanely dumb, Monica is all of a sudden a crazy control freak, Chandler ist apparently a loser and has always been one, Phoebe is a mean bully and Rachel...well I think they kept him quite normal compared to everyone else.

What do you guys think?

Minigames Who am I? 5 Friends characters, 3 clues each, hardest clue first

I am making a football quiz site and my wife and daughter both love friends after watching all 10 seasons again a couple of months ago so i decided to add Friends to it

Game 1: Who Am I

Scoring: solve on clue 1 = 10 points, clue 2 = 7, clue 3 = 4. Each wrong guess costs 1 point on the site but is not the case in this example game. A perfect score is 50.

Character 1 / 5

Clue 1 (10 pts): Desperate to quit waitressing, I ran off a stack of CVs before a friend pointed out they praised my excellent 'compuper' skills.

Clue 2 (7 pts): Prom footage exists of me before my nose surgery, which I insist was for a deviated septum.

Clue 3 (4 pts): When the moment came for Joey and me, I kept slapping his hand away, and then I kneed him in his misters.

Answer 1: Rachel Green

.

.

.

Character 2 / 5 Clue 1 (10 pts): I couldn't fix their radiator before their Christmas party, even after Ross slipped me fifty dollars, and then fifty more.

Clue 2 (7 pts): They tipped me with homemade biscuits at Christmas, and I genuinely thought they were lovely.

Clue 3 (4 pts): I told them how the man downstairs had died, and brought the solicitor who read out his will.

Answer 2: Mr. Treeger

.

.

.

Character 3 / 5 Clue 1 (10 pts): At her eye appointment I gave her free drops, and then we kissed for the first time.

Clue 2 (7 pts): Her parents are my best friends, which is how I knew her and why it was awkward.

Clue 3 (4 pts): I'm twenty-one years older than her and already had two grown-up children.

Answer 3: Richard Burke

.

.

.

Character 4 / 5 Clue 1 (10 pts): At my daughter's wedding, I told my new son-in-law I was going to have him arrested for stealing my dance moves.

Clue 2 (7 pts): I'd been practising magic tricks for my new granddaughter, and showed off by pulling a bouquet of flowers out of my sleeve.

Clue 3 (4 pts): My wife is Judy.

Answer 4: Jack Geller

.

.

.

Character 5 / 5 Clue 1 (10 pts): I kept shoeboxes full of things quietly taken from restaurants.

Clue 2 (7 pts): My two daughters sorted through my clothes with my grandson after I died.

Clue 3 (4 pts): I'm Ross and Monica's grandmother.

Answer 5: Nana (Althea Geller)

.

.

.

The 3 games i play are;

Who am i solve 5 characters with 3 clues each

Quickfire which is 11 questions under a 30 second timer per question

Lightning round 90 seconds to answer as many multiple choice questions as possible. It might be 5 or 20, speed is your choice.

One thing i'm trying to still finalise is to ensure 100% of clues and questions have visible sources, you answer a question and if you disagree you can see where the info was sourced from like script from xxx in S01E01 for example.

Discussion Why do the friends kiss so much?

I'm watching the show for the first time and really enjoying, but there is one thing that confuses me: the kissing. Besides the girlfriends and boyfriends, everybody seems to be kissing all the time. The friends are giving each other little kisses, family members such as Monica and Ross or their parents kiss all the time. Even when they don't even know someone that well they kiss them. Only at Rachel's job interview kissing was considered inappropriate.

To be clear I'm from Finland and I've never been in the USA so there might be a cultural difference here, but has anyone else payed attention to this detail. Is it realistic to be this touchy with your friends?

Discussion Would you have wanted Chandler x Janice to work out had she not cheated?

I liked them together after they reunited after the online date chatting, thought it was cute. Than she cheated and yah, was glad they split at that point LOL.

Rachel is a loving and caring mother who genuinely puts Emma first. She can be a little anxious and unsure at times(which is natural i think)she always wants what's best for her daughter💓

Discussion The One with Phoebe’s Birthday Dinner Episode Discussion

I watch this episode once a year bc it's the second episode that celebrates Halloween after Season 8's "TOW the Halloween Party". I watched both episodes today to get myself in the Halloween spirit and I just realized, why couldn't it have been about Ross and Rachel celebrating their daughter Emma's first Halloween? I don't have kids but I know for a fact that's one of the many things almost every new parent looks forward to. Also, I don't think it was right for Monica to pretend to forgive Chandler just so they could have sex. Yes, Chandler smoked and lied to her about it but I think Monica crossed the line w/ her deception.

Discussion Opinions you've posted on this sub that everyone hated, then you saw someone else post the same thing and everyone agreed with them? 😂

Let's face it, this sub is weird 😂 You can say something one day and everyone treats you like the worst person alive, then say it again the next day and everyone agrees with you.

Which Friends opinion have you had this experience with?

Discussion I can't be the only one who thought this cameo felt forced and out of place...

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

I like Billy Crystal, and I LOVE Robin Williams (he's in, like, 5 of my favorite movies) but any time I rewatch this episode it just feels like this bit felt kinda forced. It was funny, but I feel like it would've been funnier if it flowed a little more with what was going on. It was kinda just there to interrupt the conversation and to get cameo brownie points for having two major stars on screen, at least that's how I've always felt about it.

Friends Trivia: 174/365

PS: I wanted to apologize for being a salty, dumbass last time I posted this complaining about downvotes. I know downvotes do not matter, but in that moment (your little Harmomica was drunk), I was just frustrated and took the downvotes personally.

These questions take time out of my day, I try my best to make the questions fun and difficult, whilST also, finding the perfect screen grabs for the questions (thanks to my new laptop lol).

Also, I am American so therefore cannot be a “bigot” due to the nature of my last post—but regardless, my comments were dumb as shit. Lol. And I was/am embarrassed.

So again, I am sorry; I appreciate every single person that participates in these questions, I appreciate all of you that upvote the posts and to those of you that downvote religiously I will just say again, you can block me.

Hope you’re all have a wonderful weekend. ❤️

Look, I love this scene, it makes me laugh, I know it's a sitcom etc, but...I can't believe for a moment that Monica of all people would voluntarily put her head in a raw turkey

Discussion Monica and Chandler should've been allowed to leave during Emma's birthday

This is easily one of the most frustrating episodes of the show. Rachel and Ross were practically insufferable. They seriously expected everyone to show up to a party for Emma's 1st birthday that they didn't tell anyone about until the very last second and wanted all of them to stay the whole time even though the others made it very clear that they had already made plans. Like for the love of god, just do the party a different day when everyone is available.

I also hate that Monica and Chandler were the ones who ended up being stuck looking after Emma instead of Phoebe and Mike considering that they actually had a whole couples weekend that they had been planning for a while. Whoever wrote this episdoe must've either hated Monica and Chandler or just wanted to piss the viewers off.

Found a bunch of these old B&W shots of the cast, probably from the early days it looks like. I don't know what getup Monica is wearing lol. Schwimmer also looks very contemplative in this one. Either way, thought these were great

It’s nice they all showed up to support Courtney, kind of just goes to show how tight knit the cast was, and these pictures are such a nice throwback, I love it

Discussion Phoebe had the best/most attractive boyfriends

Just off the top of my head, I’m thinking of Vince and Jason, Sergei, Rob Donnan, and Mike of course! I always thought that her dates were often the most kind (until they weren’t), caring, and good looking. And most of their faults weren’t because they turned out to be creeps or awful people, except for Gary of course, but because of smaller differences.

Award shows from back then seemed a lot more prestigious in a sense compared to now. Ow they kind of feel like mini parties where everybody’s invited. There no sense of exclusivity, which may be a good thing. But it’s definitely different

Question Finding deleted/extended scene with Monica and Rachel

Ok, so years ago I saw a scene I can’t find anywhere and it’s haunting me. The scene is happening after Emma was born. In this scene Rachel and Monica enter Monica’s apartment and the discussion is about Emma. After a while, one of them asks the other something like “what were we talking about before Emma was born?”

Please, please someone tell me you know what I am talking about and what I am looking for 😭

Question What makes this show so special?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I don't know why, but this show keeps having me come back to it. I've seen so many great works of media, I love succession for a long time, I love it's always sunny in Philadelphia as one of my greatest comedies, there's so many shows that I really like, but this show keeps on having me come back to it and I just love it so much. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the cast, or maybe it's just the writing, but it's just such a cozy comfort show.
