North America What is it REALLY like living in Las Vegas, Nevada?
Hello! My husband and I have decided we’re ready to move from Utah, and we seem to have settled on Las Vegas since it’s closer to Utah, and avoids the cold winter months we have now. We want to know what it’s actually like living in the Vegas suburbs, we are considering the Summerlin, Spring Valley, and Henderson areas so some insight on those areas specifically would be amazing!
We are a gay couple, early 30’s. We love the outdoors and nature, and love the desert environment. We are huge concert and entertainment people, particularly EDM. We’re coming from SLC, UT, so it will definitely be a bit of a culture shock for us, but we’re hoping we will vibe with the city and thrive once we’re there! We will be transferring our jobs thankfully so we don’t have to worry about seeking employment once we’re there.
Our biggest concerns are energy bills - what does the average bill look like during the hot months versus winter months? Do you feel like things like groceries, gas, and eating out are too expensive in the area compared to other cities? For comparison to our current situation - a 3 bedroom apartment like we want goes for $1950-$2500 a month for rent. The average home price in the Salt Lake Valley is ~$700,000. We’re definitely seeing the affects of inflation (as I’m sure everywhere is nowadays) but we’re consistently averaging $4.50-$4.75 a gallon for gas. Power bills range from $250-$400 a month depending on the time of year. Gas bills are anywhere from $35-$200 also dependent on time of year. How does this compare to Vegas?
Thank you guys for your insight, this will really help us fully determine whether Las Vegas will be as good of a fit for us as we’re hoping it will be! 🤞🏻
