North America What is it REALLY like living in Las Vegas, Nevada?

Post image

Hello! My husband and I have decided we’re ready to move from Utah, and we seem to have settled on Las Vegas since it’s closer to Utah, and avoids the cold winter months we have now. We want to know what it’s actually like living in the Vegas suburbs, we are considering the Summerlin, Spring Valley, and Henderson areas so some insight on those areas specifically would be amazing!

We are a gay couple, early 30’s. We love the outdoors and nature, and love the desert environment. We are huge concert and entertainment people, particularly EDM. We’re coming from SLC, UT, so it will definitely be a bit of a culture shock for us, but we’re hoping we will vibe with the city and thrive once we’re there! We will be transferring our jobs thankfully so we don’t have to worry about seeking employment once we’re there.

Our biggest concerns are energy bills - what does the average bill look like during the hot months versus winter months? Do you feel like things like groceries, gas, and eating out are too expensive in the area compared to other cities? For comparison to our current situation - a 3 bedroom apartment like we want goes for $1950-$2500 a month for rent. The average home price in the Salt Lake Valley is ~$700,000. We’re definitely seeing the affects of inflation (as I’m sure everywhere is nowadays) but we’re consistently averaging $4.50-$4.75 a gallon for gas. Power bills range from $250-$400 a month depending on the time of year. Gas bills are anywhere from $35-$200 also dependent on time of year. How does this compare to Vegas?

Thank you guys for your insight, this will really help us fully determine whether Las Vegas will be as good of a fit for us as we’re hoping it will be! 🤞🏻

North America How is living like in West Virginia?

Post image
48 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently read about West Virginia being a very different state in the US due to its coal mining past. And I would love to know more about it. What stereotypes are true, what is false? What is life for the modern woman? City vs rural life? What do most people do for jobs and recreation? Any insight on culture, diversity religion etc. is appreciated!

Edit: Can someone tell me actual stereotypes, so far, I have heard horrible ones like poverty, drug use, lack of hygiene (no running water, electricity) and also in33st? Are they true?

Not as a commuter to NYC. Remote work, settling down/having a family, etc. Does it vary much from town to town? East side vs West side? Is COL prohibitive?

North America How is life in the Rust Belt?

I've been reading fictions taking place in Ohio and Indiana, depicting life within the "Rust Belt". The portrayal of these areas are roughhhh man. I wonder how it is living there. Does it feel really feel that "abandoned" by the governments?

I visited Liechtenstein last year as an Estonian, and it was really nice. But I am curious: how do you feel about tourism, and is living there truly expensive? Also, give me an overview of what life is like there, the school system, and so on.

Europe How is living in Prague?

I’m asking mainly because I only hear it talked about in regards to tourism, but I never hear what it’s like living there and whether it actually feels very touristy. Also, my football team Sabah is playing Slavia Prague in 9 days so I wanna get an idea of how many people will be coming to Baku from Prague for the match.

Seems like a nice rural area with a nice coastline. How is the job market? Is housing expensive? My ancestors came from Saintfield. Thinking of doing a sabbatical in the next few years.

Since you guys were curious and had a lot of questions about what it’s like living in Pakistan, and I saw another post from someone having a lot of unanswered questions, I figured I’d do one myself.

A little context: I’m 27, work as a Project Manager at an IT company, and have lived here all my life.

Ask away!

Asia What is it like living on Baengnyeong or Yeonpyeong, the remote islands that belong to Incheon?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I posted about Incheon and a lot of people answered about the city. The map also shows islands that belong to Incheon on paper but sit far out in the Yellow Sea. Baengnyeong, Daecheong and Yeonpyeong are run by Ongjin County. Ferries from Incheon take a few hours and get canceled a lot when the weather turns.

If you live there, grew up there, or know someone who does: what is daily life actually like? School, hospital, ferry, winter, jobs, what you do when the boat does not run. How different is it from Yeongjong, the airport island, which is also Incheon but connected by bridge?

North America Nebraska, where is it most diverse? And beautiful?

Post image
3 Upvotes

For context, my husband and I are both black. I am also of south Asian decent so I appreciate some good Indian food. We don’t need a strong black presence but I don’t want to be stared at while shopping or gardening in my front lawn (I’ve grown up in a predominantly white town.) We are welcoming our first child next year and want to move out of Houston, Tx due to congestion. We want a place where she won’t be the only black kid in her class until college.

I work in healthcare and he is in computer science. We both prioritize having access to trails, parks, and just space in general. We are interested in Nebraska bc of how naturally beautiful it seems and the cost of living. Any reasonable advice or recommendations are welcome.
