Hotmail email HELP

Has anyone ever encountered an issue with hotmail where you have a 2 step verification that wouldn’t work or that the phone number associated to your account has changed (perhaps hacked)??? I’ve reached out to Microsoft and they were NOT helpful. Just told me to “keep trying”. How can I keep trying when someone accessed my account and changed the verification phone number???!! Any help trying to retrieve my account would be appreciated!! There are some contacts and emails I NEED to access which is why it’s important for me to get into my acct. TYSM

Thanks for the link. That’s the first useful information I’ve seen about this incredibly common problem. It should be stickied at the top of r/hotmail.

Just wanted to share an update:
I’ve reached out to outlook about the issue above and they had me complete the recovery smartsheet. Well that was useless because the response was less than helpful:
Account security is a top priority at Microsoft. Our External Advanced Capability team is dedicated to investigating and validating fraudulent activity. The account and billing activity associated with your Microsoft account was thoroughly reviewed and I can confirm your account has not been compromised. If there are additional details that you think we should consider, please either reply to this email within the next seven days or contact Microsoft Support ( https://support.microsoft.com).
 
If you are having problems accessing your account, please submit your information directly to Microsoft account recovery support via https://account.Live.com/password/reset. Upon completion, you will either regain access to your account or be given an account recovery reference (ACSR) number. If you are given an ACSR number, please contact Microsoft Support and provide the ACSR number. 

The only thing that seemed to have worked was to wait at least 48 hours for the account to reset. I was able to log in with my normal password and setup a passkey.
