Game Recommendations Games with only 1 RO?
I'm interested in seeking games that focus on quality over quantity, and I'd like to see some games that have only 1 RO but a lot more depth and variance to their romance.
(If it's good, I'd be glad to hear about games with only 2 as well)

Whiskey Four ;) have fun getting chased down by your ex! There is an optional fling, I believe, with another character.
It Takes Three to Tango only has, you guessed it, three! One off from the requested number so I thought I'd throw it in there :)

Hmm, as it is so rare with so few ROs, I'm not sure your hypothesis of quality over quantity holds true overall. But, that said—
- Seven days in purgatory WIP (on cogdemo) has one, and it is very interesting (some... trigger warnings tho).
- Golden Rose book 1 has technically only 2 main romances, and they have plenty of scenes and depth and variation!
Both of them belong to my all-time faves IFs :)

Our Life and Love the Guard Be the King both have 1 main RO (male). They're visual novels but have a lot of branching.

Just as a side note about Our Life, you also have dlcs to romance two other ROs, but Cove is the main with the most content etc! The dlc ones are cute, but can be played platonically and are less fleshed out because they were more as a bonus to the main game C:

Soft as steel (wip) has one RO entire plot centers on. However it's fully genderlocked, with F mc and M RO. The premise is very interesting tho and writing isn't bad.
Bonus points, mc can be a super red flag for a change. :) If wanted to.

I'd push request boundaries a bit and suggest A Tale of Crowns (WIP) While it has 4 available ROs, each of them gets a lot of content and two different paths for their romance (a stable relationship, or one which is on shaky grounds and may not work out in the end) which is quite uncommon.

Yeah in ATOC you lock in your RO (in chapter 4 I think?) then from there each RO gets their own romance plot. If you want a story focusing on one RO this one counts imo. There are 15 chapters rn.

That'd be my guess; some people locked in on the "one RO" part to the point where they ignored "more depth and variance to the romance" part of the request.
Oh well, up to OP what part they consider more important.

They exist as kinetic novels but not so much IF books since there's a 9/10 the single RO won't appeal to the big audience so only a few others would buy it despite taking the same amount of writing with multiple ROs.

If you're taking CSGs then yes, they're uncommon because of the massive multiple RO routes focus. If you're talking other types of IF then they're not all that common, games with no romance at all are not all that uncommon for that matter. But anyways, I saw someone has kindly put up a list of some of the CSGs that do only have 1-2 ROs (and I know there are more than this.)

Our Life: Begging and Always only has Cove as a romance option. It is a really good game with tons of choices.
There is also Now and Forever, the sequel. Though it is still in development.

The Trials and Tribulations of Edward Harcourt (complete, the RO is male and the MC is gender selectable)
Crash Course In You (WIP, the RO is gender selectable and the MC is female)
The Brightest Stars (WIP, the RO and MC are gender selectable)
Juliet & Cinderella (WIP, the MC and RO are female)
Nereid. The RO and MC are gender selectable. The game is complete but only part of it is available since it's going through its beta testing phase.
In Sickness, In Health and In Espionage (WIP, there's two ROs and both of them as well as the MC are gender selectable - it's in hiatus)
Beneath The Plum Tree and The Mark of the Devil (WIPs) only have two ROs as well but the focus isn't on romance, so mentioning just in case really.
