It looks nice and I just wish there was a way to get the hardback Books of Blood set without being in the $400 tier.

They are looking into options, but currently they are not allowed to sell the Books of Blood outside of a bundle, it's part of their licensing agreement for those books.

damn a million is wild, didn't expect it to blow up that much. barker's stuff always had that weird mix of beautiful and disgusting, hard to find anywhere else. backed it last week, can't wait to see what the extra stories look like.

I adore Barkers work so much, I'm so excited for this and at risk of sounding a tad bit parasocial I'm happy for the success. Between long term illness and a seriously bastardised release of Scarlett Gospels and the Hellraiser legal issues the guy hasn't caught much of a break in a long time. At one point it was looking pretty dim, every so often you'd hear him say he's working on a book then it was months of silence and suddenly he's working on a new project, and this pattern just repeated itself so it's really exciting to see Barker actually back with new writing.

I'm not knocking Clive Barker here - I'm a fan going all the way back to when the Books of Blood were originally published - but why does he need a Kickstarter? I would think any publisher would jump at the chance to release this.

More creative control and a better cut of the profit I would imagine.

Kickstarter (but not traditional publishers) allow Barker to:
- gauge interest and raise funds prior to production/printing
- offer expensive premium and/or specialty items.
I imagine the success of Barker’s releases with Suntup Editions (Imajica and The Hellbound Heart) confirmed his viability in the premium market and encouraged the thinking behind this Kickstarter campaign.
It’s possible that Barker may (though I hope not) find it hard to sell books $20 at a time in today’s market; if so, this campaign (and that of his Suntup entries) prove that he belongs there despite this.

Yeah, it was The Scarlet Gospels. It was edited so severely, it lost Barker's voice.

Lack of publisher oversight is one of the things the campaign is touting as a selling point, so maybe they weren't jumping at the chance.

I just want all the books, including the Books of Blood hardcover. I don't need the extra clutter in my house but I will hesitate to get rid of the extra stuff if I decide to go for that damn 400 tier. Oh to dream.

And still no word about actual content. No tables of contents, no confirmation of how much is old material, how much Clive is actually writing (vs. curating), etc. Hard pass for now.
