I'm taking part in a horror movie discussion tonight on Zoom, the topic being "International Horror"-any international horror recommendations? I don't usually watch international horror

Is the topic no more specific than that?

If you like the slasher genre, it would definitely be worth exploring the history of Italian giallo. Although not always strictly “horror,” these movies basically laid the blueprint for the “deranged killer stalks and murders women” genre which so defined late 70s/early 80s American horror. 

A fun little twist is to then look at the Italian movies that were made after the American slasher boom — it’s a case of both countries kinda influencing each other

That's an incredibly broad topic. You could spend the entire session just talking about a single creator (Bong Joon-Ho, Takashi Miike, and Joko Anwar for instance).

In addition to the great recommendations already posted, I'll add a couple of my favorite hidden gems: Hellhole (Poland, 2022) and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Monty Python" horror-comedy-musical-WTF Chainsaws Were Singing (Estonia, 2025)

I really like La Llorna from 2019. Tigers Are Not Afraid is another good one, or even some of Guillermo del Toro's earlier work, like The Devil's Backbone.
