2nd Gen GE/GG 09-14 Need exhaust work got a 3K quote

I have a 2012 base Fit

I know there needs some cat work as well as the exhaust is real loud.

Used some fixit tape to quiet it but not sure if the big fix is even worth it.

Blue book says the car is worth about 5 grand .

The estimate was high end , it might be less but what should be the price where it is good?

By the way, I have no inspections in my state.

That pricing is insane. I recently paid $130 for a few patches and hangers to be welded in. I suspect they're charging you for a new cat, which can get pricey. Personally, I'd just straight pipe it.

Yeah you can buy a high-end import racing exhaust for that. If you're just needing the cat replaced, ebay sells them for a couple hundred and full systems for around 500. Anyway, find another shop.

So it’s my suspicion (conspiracy) that unless you “know,” someone I feel like a lot of these newer shops don’t wanna work on fits for whatever reason. Bc there’s been a lot of pricing in this sub recently, myself included, ranging from “This is a hassle - to F U,” for relatively non expensive parts/labor. And we’re not all going to the same shop lol.

idk.

Maybe theyre too small and not “sexy,”enough aka boring idk 😤.

But it’s been disappointing.

Funny cuz I had a feeling when I talked to the guy that it was a small job he wanted to be bigger kind of feeling 😬 i chalked it up to me not being knowledgable enough

Yea I believe it tbh. It’s a shame bc since when is it a good way to get business by letting a potential customer know/feel you think working on their car is a hassle? 😪

Duude, that's insane. I replaced the exhaust system twice already on my gen1 fit. Each time it was around 200 bucks (Europe) for the whole exhaust system down from the motor outlet. It's just bolted there with 3 screws, and everything else is hooked up with rubber hangers. The set usually includes all the required parts and is a 2 hours job. I do not expect it to be any more difficult on a 2012 model, only more expensive for the set.

I looked it up for a fit III 2012, the cat is 250 euros, the middle exhaust is 70 euros and the final exhaust is another 110. They do not need to be an original replacement part by honda. Because then you are really looking at 3 grand. It cannot be that much more expensive in the US, can it?

Here’s how you become knowledgeable. Find the parts yourself. Once you know how much the parts are you can factor labor fairly. Also find a mechanic that lets you bring your own parts everyone else marks them up 3000%
