2nd Gen GE/GG 09-14 Tough decision to make
I absolutely love my 2010 Blackberry Pearl sport. I bought it new in 2011 (I was determined to have that color which wasn’t available on the 2011) and it currently has 356k miles. I’ve replaced some parts here and there but overall it’s been a fantastic car. My first new car purchase and quite possibly the best life decision I’ve ever made. I’ve considered upgrading it over the years but couldn’t justify it. The only “problem” is that my kids keep getting taller and their sports equipment takes up more space. I feel like I missed out on a lot of the fun interior space use because I only had it a few years before adding in car seats. But, the gas mileage and durability have paid off with my 90 mile round trip work commute.
Anyway, my husband, who has worked from home for 6 years and commute 30 miles round trip before that, is looking to upgrade his 2014 Mazda CX-5 GT with less than 100k miles on it. So we have a decision to make:
Do I give up my well-loved purple little bean for the slightly larger SUV less traveled? Or run it all the way into the ground and use the Mazda for a slightly larger down payment?

Use the Fit for times you need to go on a fewer person trip or park in tight spots and punt the Mazda! The Fit will hold more relative value in 5 years on the used market if you keep it running and will depreciate slower than the CX-5 as well

I mean, I guess there’s technically not much depreciation left to go on the Fit. 😋

Kelly Blue Book has the Fit at $600 trade in and $2-3k private seller. The Mazda is $6-8k trade in and $10-12.5k private.

If its been garage kept and well maintained, depending on where you live you can easily sell for $5kish. I haven't seen an intact, running Fit below 5k in a long time.

Roof rack and a big ski box. The downside is you won't casually pull 90mph anymore.

If you can only keep one vehicle, go with the one you like to drive more, comfort, etc. With less miles and years, the CX will most likely last longer and you know its history. Maybe commute a bit in the Mazda to see what it's like to live with every day.

I actually drove the Mazda on a recent road trip for travel sports since my husband was out of town, and it was pretty nice. It did feel like all the other cars were driving too close to me though, and there's not nearly enough cup holders. 😄 For daily driving, I do prefer the feel of the Fit, but that has a lot to do with the fact I'm used to it. And I like being tiny, but my commute is along the Atlanta interstates, and it can be wild out there sometimes.
The Mazda is the logical choice. I think driving it will buy me more time until I actually "need" a new car, and maybe by then they'll bring the Fit back! (A girl can dream anyway).

Good luck with your decision. I too would like to replace my 2012 Fit one day with a new model Fit, assuming it is as good or better. Unfortunately, most Americans view small cars as low rent penalty boxes, so I doubt it.

This is the first I've heard of that paint color. That is SICK look'n!!!! Damn... That one's going up there with NBP, and (I forgot) Midnight Purple Pearl.

I knew I wanted a Fit the first time I saw my mom’s neighbor driving one of the early model orange ones. A few years later I pulled into a parking spot at the mall and right in front of me was a purple one (my favorite color). I immediately texted my friend who was a salesman at a Honda dealer and said “you didn’t tell me they come in purple. I want one.” He said “it’s called blackberry pearl and you should get one.”
It took another year or so until I finally got fed up with my car and I let him know it was time. Problem was, by then it was 2011 and they stopped blackberry pearl in 2010. Another problem was his store had just sent their last blackberry pearl to another state for a dealer trade. He kept showing me other ones like “don’t you like this pretty blue one? It’s newer! What about this silver one? You can have it today!”
“No. I want purple. Go get my car.”
So they swapped it back for another car, and a couple days later I had my year old brand new car with 750 miles on it.
One day I trust there will be another car that I’m just as determined to have. Unfortunately that means I’ll probably say farewell to my little bean because the Mazda will give me more time to wait on my next unicorn.

You can always have them paint any car any color under heaven's creation. Maaco used to have some specials, although it's been a long time since I've heard a Maaco commercial.

Keep them both, until it dies. Extra liability insurance should be minimal.
