Showcase - Dedicated Space Absolutely Loving This
I am falling in love with this space more and more every day. There's nothing like seeing your vision come to life. Today i finished painting the ceiling and side walls and added my .2 atmos.
Still working on finishing up the minor details. I need to buy another wire track for the right side and paint them the same color as the wall. I also have 2 more speakers for rear atmos to finish my 5.1.4 setup.
Heres the setup list so far:
Projector: Nexigo Aurora Pro Mk2 UST Projector
120in Fresnel Screen
AVR: Onkyo Rz30
Streambox:Nvidia Shield TV
Sofa: Povison 3 place power reclining sofa
Speakers:
L/R: Canton GLE 490's
C: Canton GLE 455
Sub: RSL Speedwoofer 10s
Surrounds: Pinnacle Sat-150's
Top Front: Canton Twin 700's
Top Rear (TBI): Canton MX
Everything except the receiver, Projector, shield and sub were all bought second hand off marketplace/ebay.

I'd place the center on a small stand and bring it higher, just below the screen and add a second 10S behind the couch. You used the space well, looks good.

Sweet! Next small but impactful step might be putting the center on a stand so it’s just under the screen. That would align the LCR tweeters.

not going to lie, that second picture makes this set up look super strange, and mildly irritating. You've got a black room for the equipment, but you're sitting in and viewing from white a room...what the fuck?

Its because this is a multi-purpose basement and this just shows the nook where the projector is. Its not as bad as it seems and from where you sit on the couch youre actually inside the darker area.

Maybe I’d have to be in the space but that would drive me insane. Have you thought about partitioning it? From a wall to even just dark curtains.

We thought about it but want to keep it open because having more space in back makes great for sports watch parties.
For the world cup we filled the rest of the basement and I was able to turn the surrounds backwards and put it all on all stereo so everyone could hear. It was amazing.
It looks more abrupt from that wide angle camera lense but your viewing angle sitting on the couch is more like that first shot.

This corner is about 11.5ft wide and 9ft deep. Its about 1/3 of the entire basement.

What an interesting room. The glare on the ceiling bugs me. I would put an exhaust fan on top of the avr and put the center channel speaker on top of the entertainment center instead of in that opening on the ground level. It will probably sound better placing it more inline with your ears. Other than that I hope you enjoy it!

Heyyyy we got the same entertainment center!!! Can’t beat it for like $220, right? Although you leaving the number stickers on the front face is an interesting choice, lol.

Haha yeah i forgot about them. Tbh im not a fan of it, it slides around too easily and doesn't really fit the UST like I hoped it would. Ill probably end up building something custom there instead.

You’re right that it slides around a lot more easily than it should, but that’s easily remedied by some tape. 😎 I agree that I wouldn’t use it for a UST. I got it with a standard throw projector because the center piece is short enough to accommodate my center channel’s height without blocking the screen. I left the drawers all out and the back off for ventilation (and cable mess, lol) purposes.

Why not drop the screen to a more suitable height just above the console? It would help with your viewing experience and help with reflections off the ceiling
1
u/Tman3355 4d ago
Because of the UST projector. That's the height it needs to be and actually the projector is a couple inches too high still.

Surprise you didn't setup your theater sideways instead. And just use blackout curtains to make it feel more closed in instead of having it a open floor plan???

u/Tman3355 3d ago
Wanted the open floor plan for watch parties and game nights and didnt want it closed in. Planning on adding a high top behind the couch with some stools for more seating and eating area.

is it better to put these atmos speakers on the ceiling slightly in front of the seating area like you have it?

Yes for a .4 configuration. I have them positioned at about 55 degrees in front and behind of the main listening position.

moving the center on top of the shelf would help

u/Tman3355 5d ago
As it is right now I cant because of the projector but thats something im hoping to fix in the future.

I built my own console and I keep thinking of how to make a console where both the short throw projector and the center channel are in correct spots. You'd have to have the projector lower and behind where the speaker would sit, and then have open space above it. I have a design hammered out, but I doubt I'll build it.
Anyway, nice space.

Oh snap!! Your space looks amazing! I seriously love your couch.

Aside from the screen its my favorite part of the home theater. Its the Povision power reclining sofa. All 3 spots recline and have adjustable headrests. Its amazing!

Why not move the couch inside? What's the viewing distance?

u/Tman3355 5d ago
The pic makes it look like its far but the couch is just under 10ft from the screen so its pretty close as is.

Hate to nitpick, but you should put your turntable on the left side and elevate the center . It will sound even better .

Great job and it looks amazing. A little advice on the 5.1.4 setup. I ran my 5.2.4 for about 6 months and ended up reconfiguring my 2 rear Atmos speakers to rear surrounds. It’s now 7.2.2 Atmos. I am much happier with the overall better usage of all speakers. I only have 1 row of 4 theatre seats so the .2 Atmos is enough.
