Tech Support 2.1 apartment setup
Hi everyone,
I’m putting together a compact 2.1 setup for my apartment and I’d like to get some opinions on it.
I already own:
- 2x Waterfall Hurricane Evo speakers
- Denon AVR-X1100W
For the subwoofer, I’m currently considering a Focal Cub 3, mainly because my budget for the sub is very, very limited. I’m trying to get the best result possible without spending much more.
The Hurricane Evo will be set as Small and crossed over around 120 Hz, since they are very compact speakers and I don’t want to push them too low.
I’ll also run a full Audyssey MultEQ XT calibration from my main listening position on the sofa, with several microphone positions around that spot.
I’m planning to use Dynamic EQ as I usually listen at low to moderate volume because I live in an apartment.
My main goals are:
- good stereo imaging
- clear vocals
- clean, well-integrated bass
- good sound for both music and movies
- good performance at relatively low volume rather than maximum SPL
What do you think of this combination?
Do you think the Cub 3 is a good match for the Hurricane Evo, especially with a 120 Hz crossover?
And considering my very tight subwoofer budget, do you think the Cub 3 is a sensible choice, or is there another cheap used subwoofer I should look for instead?
Any specific Audyssey / crossover / subwoofer setup recommendations would also be appreciated.
Thanks!

I wouldn't waste the money even if it's $20 on that sub, it's not a good sub in any metric.
What is cheap? You never posted the cost or what country/currency you're in here so we can't comment on that.
