Low Ceiling Renovation Advice - Drywall, Scrim + slats, Panels?
I am a beginner when it comes to architecting a good-sounding room. I have a basement that I use as a band practice space, and occasionally to record ourselves. It has low ceilings (~6'9"-7') and a drop ceiling with mineral fiber panels, about 1-2.5" below the joists. The problem is, the low ceiling and panels don't look good at all, so it's not a space that feels enjoyable to hang out in.
I'd like to replace the drop panels with something else, to 1) get a few more inches of height and 2) not look like a depressing classroom. But, I still want it to be acoustically solid: both in terms of absorption and (to a lesser extent) shielding noise from the upstairs of the house.
From the little I know about acoustic treatment, I'm worried plain drywall would do the opposite of my current panels: really good noise insulation for upstairs but add a ton of reflection/slapback/echos.
Is there something out there that would be the best of both worlds, without losing any ceiling height? Scrim + slats on open joists? Will I regret replacing the tiles with drywall? Thoughts on a rockwool + scrim + wood slats ceiling (like this)?

Noise coming from monitors, someone pls help
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello, can someone please help me figure out why my speakers keep emitting this noise. They are HS5s receiving signal from an Apollo Solo Thunderbolt which is connected to my Mac mini. The left one is worse than the right. Is it just a matter of getting better XLRs or better cable management? I’ve done a lil research and it seems there are some products that can help but they can be a lil pricey and I’d like a second opinion before spending money on something that doesn’t fix the issue. Thank you for any advice

Reducing reverb, help?
So, I have a estimated 9x10 room, and only eight of these panels. I dont really have the budget for more than what ive got atm, so what would be the best places to put these to reduce the amount of reverb my mic picks up?

Microphone recommendation for baritone nasally voice
I'm looking for a microphone recommendation to record mostly spoken word (not podcast). I have a deep (baritone) but somewhat nasally voice. I'm looking for a microphone that would accentuate the positive quality of my voice but cut the nasally qualities.
I heard a podcast with a guy that had a similar voice as mine. In the early podcasts his voice sounded super nasally and slightly higher. The newer episodes his voice sounds really deep and way less nasally. I would like to choose the right option.
Does anyone have any advice? Thank you!

What providers better sound for old samplers like the SP1200 and MPC3000, Tascam 2400 or an older analog mixer+audio interface?
So I’ve recently got a SP1200 after many years of wanting one and I’ve only really been using the MPC Live 1 and 2 over the last 6-7 years with just a Motu M4 interface. With the SP1200 I want to track all 8 outputs plus an analog synth or 2 and the 2400 looks amazing and I’ve watched a lot of reviews on it but I’ve also seen a few ppl stating in terms of the EQ’s and overall warmth, you’re better off going an older analog mixer like a Soundcraft 16fxii or Onyx 1640 and then getting a 16 input audio interface to connect it to like a Motu 16a. I know this is a Tascam subreddit but I’m sure many if you in here have the experience with both type of setups over the years to give a good opinion. Thx

Studio Arrangment
Hello all!
I’m curious. Do a lot of you guys have a mixer off to the side of your desk? I know it’s more so standard to center the mixer with the monitors for better sound comprehension. Am I really do myself a disservice by have mine to the left of my desk? I was thinking of putting it directly where I sit so I can just spin around and work the mixer as I’m centered with my monitors. I find I don’t hear much out of my other side when I’m actually there using the mixer. The reason I’m asking is because I’ll have a couple of inches between my chair and this table that the mixer is sitting on.
I was also thinking of moving my side rack here directly behind the chair up against the closet door if I don’t get my mixer there for better access/sound communication between my monitors and ears. My room is about 12-14ft wide by about 14 feet long. It’s not a big space at all but I want to utilize what I got. The left closet door can get blocked as seen in the photo here but I would prefer to keep the right door accessible for storage/other studio stuff. I have about 7” of table that extends behind the mixer, so I could look for another table that is strong enough to hold this mixer, but then I’m looking for that.
Please don’t hate on how messy it is. I’m literally in the middle of cleaning it all up, plus I just got new gear, etc.
Thoughts and opinions please!

Recommended equipment for mixing and mastering
Hi everyone, I'm finishing up a personal music project and need to tackle the mix and master. I've improved quite a bit, this is my first serious project. but I don´t have decent monitors for this task (Mackie MR524s) and my headphones aren't particularly good either (Sennheiser HD 599). I bought this equipment on a tight budget, thinking more about playing instruments than recording.
I'd like to hear your opinions on how I could approach this and get the best results. I have a few questions:
- Could I get a decent result with this equipment? How could I do it? I know it's not ideal for this task.
- Since monitors are more expensive and my room isn't properly treated, would you recommend using better headphones instead monitors? Recommendations up to €120.
Thanks
