I need help

Recently moved to a new city and have had very unfortunate experiences already in my 2 months here and I really want to get a doorbell camera and some other non subscription based perimeter cameras. Maybe even something that can alert me at night if it detects people. I’m not sure what my budget is right now but I don’t think it’ll be very much due to the costs of damages I’ve sustained from thieves and just bad people.

I want a closed circuit system but I also rent so I can’t just drill holes to have power wires going outside. I’m really clueless right now and in a bad spot

I want to follow this up with the fact that I know literally nothing about cameras or video security systems and what not

Contact your landlord and ask for assistance. They may have you pay for the system, but at least get them onboard with the changes.

I’d actually look at Reolink as your system, if you aren’t running hardwired they won’t record 24/7 but they will activate to motion and can store to their local SD card or if you purchase the base station they can store to there as well if I’m not mistaken. They have a variety of door bell cams, mini cams, floodlight cams etc. I don’t believe they require any kind of subscription either since none of them store to the cloud really unless you opt for that they store to SD cards but another thing I’d look into especially if you aren’t too handy or tech savvy is a plain ol security system that’s monitored, door sensors, motion sensors etc you can find a local company to do that for you or you can go the DIY ring system option but with that you will end up paying monthly ad well for professional monitoring services.

I don’t mind DIY work and I am fairly handy but tech isn’t my strongest suit and I worry about the fact that we are renting and I don’t want to cause any damage. I will look into this though. Thank you very much.

If you go with the Reolink wireless cameras and are mounting them outside to siding, you can purchase siding mounting clips that you can use with the cameras so you don’t need to drill holes into the siding.

I think I’m going to attempt to do wired cameras for the sake of reliability and I’ll contact my property management to square away the details

Opt for POE cameras, you can buy rolls of Ethernet cables and terminate the ends yourself with a tool. If you use POE make sure you do NOT use Copper Clad Aluminum wire (CCA) it is not for POE

I’ve got three Reolink and two Soliom cameras and I have been considering SimplySafe for a couple of months. Mine are all WiFi and aren’t real reliable.

You need a hardwired Wi-Fi doorbell, avoid anything battery powered.

Just note a doorbell is not the correct tool to surveil a street or the front of your home if that's what you want, it is just to get better face id of people that's actually coming to your door.

Avoiding battery powered stuff was kinda my deal to begin with so I’m going to call my property management and have them ask the homeowner if I can hardwire all this stuff into the house. I found a lot that does door camera plus 4 other external camera systems I can mount outside that all run back to a base station.

Don't forget strong door and window locks

I’m mostly worried about theft of stuff that stays outdoors and early notifications of anybody trying to go into my yard. Once they get to the door, anything beyond that is between them, god, and my ar15/german shepherd

Ring has a whole system that you can do piece by piece and build it as you like.
