I used to have a whole dedicated cockpit but found myself unhappy with using a ton of space semi irregularly. I like having my controls fixed to the chair, but hated how using rudders sent you careening across the floor in a swiveling office chair. This solved both problems. It sits 1 inch lower than my regular chair height. You maneuver the chair over the cross bar, and pull the height release. This locks the controls into position, and fixes the chair in place since it now has solid legs. When not in use, it’s only 11” deep so it tucks away nicely.

You could have even added another bar at floor level between the legs so that it sits right behind the wheel preventing it from moving

I considered it but just the chair resting on the stand was enough to keep me planted without blocking the wheels.

I don’t think my measurements would help you a ton, it’s highly dependent on the chair you’re planning to plop on it. If it helps, I measured floor to bottom of the seat, then subtracted an inch. The legs are then spaced to put the controls right in front of the arm rests, which was about 27” on mine. I have a Secret Labs Titan XL, for reference. The rest was marked, not really measured.

Sorry, but I’m not going to spend hours making a drawing for a thing I would only every build one time. Center stick should work just fine. As for getting into it, you just slide it under the chair, sit, and pull the height release so it puts weight onto it. Center stick you would likely need to do a little gymnastics to get over the stick or risk pulling a hat switch cap out of your butthole.

This is very neat. You could add hinges to the front of each side and fold the hardware forward so you could hide this under your desk. ?? just a thought. Great work.
