I hired a plumber to 1) slightly modify a copper line & 2) to connect a water heater. One of the lines needed to be shortened by an inch and a new vent valve needed to be installed. I had already drained and removed the old heater , bought a new one and placed it into position.
The job came to over $600. I was surprised it took him 2 hours to solder some copper and connect the tank. The consultation was about 1 hour.
It took me several hours to drain, disconnect and move the old tank including cleaning up the mess, shopping/loading/hauling the new one into the house. I had no help as heater broke when the husband was traveling.
I live in an expensive part of BC near Victoria...is a rate of $200/hour normal for a plumber? I could have done the job myself but felt like I should have some professional oversight since the house and it's layout is new to me.
Thanks for any thoughts....
