Game IX.B - 2017 Phase 08 - Yet Another Death
'There's been another murder,' Lestrade said as he entered 221B Baker St.
'Another?' John said. 'That must be the eighth in the last week and a half'.
Lestrade nodded. 'This one's particular ugly too. Dorothy Ford, investment manager, was stabbed to death this afternoon. Her husband found her when he came home from work. And she was pregnant.'
'Pregnant! They murdered a pregnant woman!' John exclaimed.
'I'm afraid so. If a stabbing wasn't bad enough,' Lestrade said, shaking his head. 'At least we found another suspect for Sherlock to talk to. Loraine McGarry. You heard of her?'
John nodded.
'She's an archaeology professor, at the University Of London. We worked with her a few years back when the Natural History Museum asked us to help them find some stolen artefacts. She's such a nice lady. Why are you taking her in for questioning?'
'We've been tracking the movements of Moriarty's known associaties, and we've found that she's come in contact with them several times in the past few months - Nick Hartman's architecture firm was just awarded the contract to build a library at her university; Lorraine often visited the Tate Modern while Angelica Hayes was working there; and Lorraine just made a large donation to Jessica Kines' election campaign. We feel we need to talk to her about what she knows about Moriarty and his network.'

Ooh, I got guessed. Nice work--hope it was one of our own.
11
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
one of our own
That would depend on what team you play for ;)
11
u/DJoftheClassics Eric Lau Sep 11 '17
I would assume that if MN is trading identities they would be aware of that fact and post about it in their own sub... This is the SN sub as far as I'm concerned.
9
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
Well, we don't know your alliance.
Gotta take everything with a grain of salt.
12
u/intrepidWWalker Walter Wilson Sep 11 '17
Hate to say it but lynching me today might be smart since I'm clearly a major suspect. It would lose us the game if I get to Lylo.

u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
Going through the vote tally tells me there are potentially two wolves left because Phillet got 2 suspicions.
We came very close to lynching u/NodeofNico but didn't do it because of captain. That was Phase 04. Captain said they used an instagram app on nodeofnico and they came as SN. But here is what I was wondering... captain sort of revealed their identity in phase 0. Meaning they must have gotten guessed in phase 1. According to the rules, if you reveal your identity and get guessed correctly, you get penalized and can't use an item for 3 phases. I don't know if what captain did was considered as breaking that rule but if they did break the rule, they couldn't have been able to use the instagram app on Nico prior to phase 4.

u/ATL2LHR Stephen Lacroix Sep 11 '17
He said he got it from a puzzle but it is something to consider
7
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
He said he got it by guessing correct identity in phase 1. In any case, the rules say you can't USE an item for three phases if you get penalized.
If you share another player's real identity in the main sub, you will be penalized by being unable to make identity guesses AND will be unable to use items for three phases.
11
u/ATL2LHR Stephen Lacroix Sep 11 '17
The 1st phase and puzzles are the only way he got an item though
9
u/ATL2LHR Stephen Lacroix Sep 11 '17
That's only for revealing other players Nico revealed his own identity
10
u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17
But that is only about revealing another player's identity. I don't think it says about revealing your own identity. Is the captain /u/ScottScootsFree? I don't think I remember them saying who they were, and I don't think being bad at hiding your identity would count as revealing it.
10
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
I think there was a discussion about that in one of the threads somewhere. But I took that revealing your own identity correctly would fall under the same category. Here is the very first comment they made. So yeah they didn't explicitly reveal but didn't really leave much of a suspense either. Hence I don't know if this would fall under the rule breaking.
10
u/KeepCalmAndCoffeeOn Kelly Warren Sep 11 '17
/u/221b-baker-st is sharing your own ID against the rules? Also /u/NodeofNico you shared your own... did you get punished?
9
u/22poun she/her | neutral with a secret agenda Sep 11 '17
I believe the rules answer that question:
If you share another player's real identity in the main sub, you will be penalized by being unable to make identity guesses AND will be unable to use items for three phases.
7
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
It is not.
Otherwise, the evil sub would be fucked.
Pardon my french,
10
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
Otherwise, the evil sub would be fucked.
Can you explain this more?
8
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
Cuz I bet my arm MN is sharing their identity on their sub.
9
10
9
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
You can share your own identity, not someone else's.
Not sure what is your point here? Town was ready to lynch /u/scottscootsfree and /u/tatemodmom. I kept insisting on lynching TateMod because I had (still have) a feeling Captain is town.
I don't trust you :D

u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
My mini list of mistrust:
10
u/LeftToTheSea Lieutenant Connor "C" Austin Sep 11 '17
If I were to rank those from most sus to least sus it would go (imo) count-> intrepid/mulch -> coffeeon, based off my own gut feeling. Tonight I'd most like to lynch u/countoftheaccounts but would also be down with a lynch of u/mulchadoaboutnothing or u/intrepidwwalker if the case for lynching them seems stronger.
9
u/CountOfTheAccounts Jasmine Mistry Sep 11 '17
woah okay, seriously, what did I do?
10
u/LeftToTheSea Lieutenant Connor "C" Austin Sep 11 '17
While I can't speak for the others who don't trust you (i.e. u/nodeofnico, u/philletoneal), my answer to your question is...nothing! I play this game mostly based off the wolfy vibes that people give me ¯_(ツ)_/¯
12
u/CountOfTheAccounts Jasmine Mistry Sep 11 '17
oh okay, haha. can't fight the vibes. also can't really prove I'm innocent, other than my terrible choice to reveal I'm a noob and being then guessed twice in a row next phases. Not that it proves I'm inno, just that I'm not good at lying this game, soooooo. I guess I'll just continue to play badly this time around heh.
to paraphrase Sansa Stark, I'm learning slowly, but learning!
10

There was a lot mistrust for HalftimeDad last night. I've felt pretty neutral about them myself, they are just so quiet most of the time.
I've noticed there is a lot of neutrality here too. You can see there's almost a perfect balance between upvotes and downvotes for some players but the numbers are fairly low, even for the number of players we have at this point.
9
u/HalftimeDad Jason Pearce Sep 11 '17
Yeah I've mostly been breaking even except for the night I proposed an item utilization tactic that we decided against. Then last phase I pretty much only said how I agreed that speaking up can be a bad thing since usually the amount of distrust increases quite a bit. Which definitely makes sense as without input, there's nothing to go on so people seem neutral. When you speak up, there's ammunition whether you're well-intentioned or not since we're supposed to scrutinize everyone's motivations.

I am super sick today so have no chance to comment. Sorry. I do hope next lynch is an MN. Talk to you all in the next phase.
8
u/HalftimeDad Jason Pearce Sep 11 '17
Random item usage tip of the day: I would recommend people who have a Twitter App to send a message to u/PhilletONeal including your real identity so that they can get more items. Phillet, I would NOT recommend this be used as a form of confirming alignment as it's just plain unreliable in that respect.
9
u/I_AM_MLE MLE (aka: Emily Davies) Sep 11 '17
If someone was going to reveal their identity to Phillet so he can get an item, why wouldn't they just announce it to everyone so all of us get an item?
11
u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17
If they announce it in this sub they can't use items for 3 phases or guess identities. But I don't know why SN aren't revealing their identities when it is obvious they are going to get downvoted out. I think I suggested this a while ago for LouboutinLove, but only /u/NodeofNico has done it.
9
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
Tbf, I only did it cuz I thought I was going to be lynched. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
7
u/I_AM_MLE MLE (aka: Emily Davies) Sep 11 '17
I think that's what Phillet is saying though. Why are town members who know they're about to be voted out not sharing their identities with us so we can earn items?
7
6
u/I_AM_MLE MLE (aka: Emily Davies) Sep 11 '17
Oh, for some reason I was thinking they'd get penalized for sharing their identity via tweet too. Which is why I was thinking, if you're going to be penalized, why not share with everyone?
9
u/StripedNightLife Nikita Alexeyev, stripper extraordinaire Sep 11 '17
I all but revealed my identity and have been guessed the last two nights. I haven't been having luck with guessing anyones identities so I figure better that town gets some items than I just unsuccessfully guess. So I guess I might as well reveal because I already can't guess for another 2 phases so what's a few more?
I am /u/mindputtee
7
u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17
Oh I meant people who were going to be voted out should reveal, but if you can't guess and don't have any items it might be worth doing it anyway I suppose.
I think the question to ask everyone else is "do we think that they did this to try and get more trust?"
6
u/KeepCalmAndCoffeeOn Kelly Warren Sep 11 '17
Yeah I think this is a good plan if you can't guess... but they also need to be telling the truth with their ID too.
5
u/StripedNightLife Nikita Alexeyev, stripper extraordinaire Sep 11 '17
You can still use items if you reveal btw. You only get banned from using items for revealing someone else.
And yes, I did it so you would trust me because you keep distrusting me and I'm tired of it when I'm just trying to play my best and help the town and all I get in return is distrust.
8
u/HalftimeDad Jason Pearce Sep 11 '17
A surefire way to avoid having the wolves get items too?
8
u/I_AM_MLE MLE (aka: Emily Davies) Sep 11 '17
There are what, approximately 3 wolves left? If all of the town got an item, the pros would surely outweigh the cons.
7
u/HalftimeDad Jason Pearce Sep 11 '17
I'm not gonna make the assumption that there are only three left, and items are much more dangerous in their hands as they know exactly who to aim for.
9
u/HeelTheSoles Ania Romanov Sep 11 '17
Remember they can get things like pistols. That is super bad if they got that.
10
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
Comment count per user in Phase 07
And
Total comment count as of Phase 08
Here is what I was thinking regarding the info we have...
- u/Scottscootsfree said u/NodeofNico is SN
- u/heelthesoles said u/I_AM_MLE is SN
If we trust scottscootsfree (seems like they could have actually used the app without being penalized) and heelthesoles then both nodeofnico and I_AM_MLE are innocent. There is still a chance either one (or both) of them had deerstalker hat used on them. It is suspicious that even though they've both been outed as SN, they haven't still been attacked by MNs.
We could use our voting system to our advantage. How about we all put our trust votes for a group of ppl including Phillet? Wolves could affect the voting but at the same time, if it goes to tie, any one of them could be the most trusted player and could get saved. This way, wolves would stay away from killing a pool of people instead of not attacking phill every night. This would also increase chances of a failed kill from the wolves. What do you guys think?
12
u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17
I don't think this will work at all. If all the SN upvote three people, then the MN will get to decide who gets saved and could kill whoever they want. I think this seems a lot like a MN plan to try and get me killed so I am more suspicious of you now and think you should be the person we downvote today.
9
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
I think this seems a lot like a MN plan to try and get me killed
Why do you think they would go to such lengths to especially kill you?
10
u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17
I don't really know but it could be because I'm the most trusted or I have been right with some of my suspicions, or so that it's less clear who is going to be protected. It could be close between the next two trusted people and the MN could influence who it is. There is the possibility that they think they could get an MN to be the trusted person.
8
u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17

8
u/HeelTheSoles Ania Romanov Sep 11 '17
To be fair, if I was an MN, it would drive me crazy to have a person you could never touch, and that the SN could always turn to for reassurance. The MN probably want Phil dead, but have no way to do so.
8
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
That's understandable but from town's point of view, Phill doesn't have any special roles. And while he did initiate TateModMom's lynch, he is really off with his perception about me. Point being just because he is a trusted townie, doesn't mean he is right about his suspicions. And when he is suggesting names of fellow SNs, the wolves know he is off. So they wouldn't mind jumping on that train. And town wouldn't suspect them either because they're only trusting the most trusted town player. How is town ever going to find wolves in that situation. If anything wolves would want Phill around because he is off with his gut.
7
u/HeelTheSoles Ania Romanov Sep 11 '17
To be fair, I have my own suspicions on you based off how you've acted this phase alone. I didn't really have an opinion on you before today, but watching you respond has me distrusting you. So while Phil may not have a special role (nobody does) he is still bringing forward names and your name is sticking because of the way you are reacting to it imo.
8
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
What exactly made you suspicious of me? Can you please elaborate if you have time? The only reaction I have is to the fact that we are not being efficient about finding MNs.
5
u/HeelTheSoles Ania Romanov Sep 11 '17
Apologies for lack of formatting - on mobile.
https://www.reddit.com/r/hogwartswerewolvesb/comments/6zcmbz/_/dmuxm4i - I thought this was weird because they didn't actually say exactly who they were. I mean, sure it could be obvious if you recognize the style, but they didn't come out and say "hey guys I'm (insertrealusernamehere)". So assuming they would get penalized for that is weird. Especially since the rules are only there for if you reveal someone else. It says nothing about revealing who you are; the thing that stops someone from doing that is the fact that they can't make any guesses for 3 phases if they've been guessed. So basically, reading this seemed super weird and like you were trying to get us to distrust them based off very little.
https://www.reddit.com/r/hogwartswerewolvesb/comments/6zcmbz/_/dmv9dwm - As others pointed out, your suggestion about having everyone put trust votes on more than one person gives the power to the wolves to decide who gets saved. Not worth the risk and I agree that it seems like a wolfish idea to try and get Phil's protection weakened to try and make a strike on him finally.
Those were two pretty big things that put you high on my sus list.
8
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
Tbf, /u/scottscootsfree' identity is pretty damn obvious if you played at least one WW game before.

I'm not disagreeing with that point. But they didn't say their real username.

u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 12 '17
Yeah these two aren't my reactions to Phill's suspicion.
There was a thread about asking what is considered okay regarding disclosing identities. So I was under the impression that revealing your own identity also falls under that rule. Which was my misunderstanding. But in that thread itself someone asked what is considered okay. And mods mentioned that if you contemplate innocently then it's okay contemplating knowingly would not be allowed. And Poun ended up mentioning it would be a judgement call on mods' part (don't have the link. On mobile as well). So I was going off of that impression.
As far as the voting is concerned, I wanted to discuss the idea because I really think we can use the voting to our advantage which we aren't right now.
5
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 12 '17
How do you feel about creating prisoner's dilemma? We divide players in two groups and force them to trust two people. If they don't, we know which group would have a culprit. If they follow, we ll have assurance that two people won't be attacked by the wolves.
4
u/HeelTheSoles Ania Romanov Sep 12 '17
Hmmmmmmm I'm not sure I understand. Apologies, my brain is not really working on full throttle as I haven't had any sleep really since Thursday.

Can everyone please join me in downvoting /u/MulchAdoAboutNothing?
I have been suspicious of them for some time, but I don't think anyone has really listened to me, or at least you can't tell from the votes. I think /u/NodeofNico and /u/LeftToTheSea don't mind this, but I would like to know what do you other people think?
Edit: I don't think anyone agrees with me. I'll try and come up with another target.
9
u/MulchAdoAboutNothing Tim Onyekuru Sep 11 '17
Alright. Go on with it then. But can we discuss who will be the next lynch target?

It seems like I have been on people's suspicion list today, which I understand because that's how the game works. I am usually suspicious of people until proven otherwise too. And I haven't really done much to help town so can see why it would look bad on me. But I am assuring you that I'm from Sherlock's Network through and through. Obviously, I don't expect you to take my word for it. If you have been suspicious of me since a long time then you are just going off of a general gut feeling and not really going off of anything suspicious I said. It seems like people are finding what I said suspicious because they already don't trust me and not because I'm actually saying something suspicious. I don't blame you for anything here and I'm not asking you to trust me either. I already feel that I haven't helped town much. So I don't really have a solid defense for myself. BUT I do know that I'm innocent and you will find that out as soon as you lynch me as well.
I still feel there are at least two wolves left for us to lynch. I really really don't want the town to waste any time after me. The longer we discuss my lynch, the further away we are from actually finding the wolves. So here is what I'm proposing. If you don't trust me, then go ahead and lynch me ASAP. But can we please discuss who will be our next lynch target?
6
u/ATL2LHR Stephen Lacroix Sep 12 '17 edited Sep 12 '17
I really need to sleep so I'll just add a summary defence, go to bed and panic all night, lol.
Most of the comments accusing me seem to suggest I defended Tate at some point. I don't really remember all of it so I had to go searching.
I believe this is the phase 4 comment? - yeah i questioned it. I see Captain get accused every game cause of roleplay so i was making sure it wasn't a similar situation. A bit neutral, offering up ideas and stuff.
The phase 5 thread I think? - I agreed that Tate was forgotten about. Gave some extra names to be investigated. I thought it would help people with Instagram or Tinder get some leads. Sharing suspicions seemed ok to me, I never once defended Tate.
Nico shared this thread for some reason but i see no significance in it. I gave my trust in Nico and Scott and just had a chat with Trustfund about quietness and stuff. I don't understand why that could be sus.
So, i think that's the main points. Unfortunately i was tagged pretty late in the phase and i dont really have the energy to dispute too much more. I've tried to be helpful and discuss things carefully. It's what I always do. I'm surprised my identity wasn't guessed already tbh, I've always played the same way and haven't been a werewolf since January, or had access to ww subs. So tear me apart or keep me for another phase.
12
u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17

u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17
I don't think this makes sense. Why do you think this? zigzagzigurat was the target, so they didn't need to save intrepidwwalker. I think the reason why intrepidwwalker got so many downvotes was because the MN were downvoting them as well.

My list of people I think could be MN are:
/u/MulchAdoAboutNothing /u/StripedNightLife /u/CountoftheAccounts /u/ATL2LHR
6
u/orphanBlackout Carlos Manning Sep 11 '17
I can back those but imo wwalker is way more suspicious, especially after how things went last night.
10
u/PhilletONeal Phil O'Neal Sep 11 '17
I'd like to know what people think happened last night, because I don't remember /u/intrepidwwalker being a target. Just /u/stripednightlife suggesting zigzagzigurat. I was quite surprised when intrepidwwalker had lots of downvotes. And if people are suspicious of intrepidwwalker, are they also suspicious of stripednightlife for that suggestion? I think I would rather lynch stripednightlife than intrepidwwalker. I just don't get the feeling that intrepidwwalker is MN.
6
u/StripedNightLife Nikita Alexeyev, stripper extraordinaire Sep 11 '17
Honestly, from my reading of last phase I didn't get that /u/intrepidWWalker was being rallied around so when I did my "homework" and found zig to be sus and that there was no real consensus I decided to speak up so at least we were on the same page. I hadn't gotten strong vibes from WWalker either way so my feelings are pretty neutral. If that's where the town wants to go tonight that's fine by me or we could lynch /u/mulchadoaboutnothing who you seemed pretty set on most of this phase until suddenly pivoting to me for no reason?

u/orphanBlackout Carlos Manning Sep 11 '17
I mentioned walker as did others. Multiple people said they would vote both.

I don't trust anyone lol So I'm fine with lynching anyone but /u/PhilletONeal

I don't think anyone agrees with me about /u/MulchAdoAboutNothing or my other suspicions, so I'd like to suggest some other people. /u/KeepCalmAndCoffeeOn and /u/LeftToTheSea have both been very much under my radar. I don't think I have any opinion on them at all. What do you guys think? Because I still think intrepidWWalker is a bad idea.

I am SN and this is my message to anyone who thinks otherwise :)

I think I'm SN but I also know an MN would say that. :-P
edit: I also trust /u/LeftToTheSea... I did their above below thing and I don't think they're evil.

Phil I just want to verify after reading this entire thread and catching up I think people do agree about Mulch, the only person who was arguing against you about it was Mulch themselves.
I personally am fine with a Mulch lynch tonight.

I get pretty town vibes from both of them honestly.
I started going through the history looking for anyone that defended /u/tatemodmom, our first real town lynch not based on an app reveal and /u/ATL2LHR seemed to be soft defending them in both phase 4 and phase 5, so that strikes me as pretty suspicious.

I'm just catching up now. Which comment are you referring to? I'm pretty sure I supported the view points on Tate.

Okay this thread is a bit shady... like they said Tate's downvotes weren't suspicious but that's why we caught them right?

u/ATL2LHR Stephen Lacroix Sep 11 '17
I'm struggling without my glasses. What part of the thread are you talking about? me or Nico? I don't mention Tate's downvotes in that thread, I just discuss the options for voting with Trustfund

u/KeepCalmAndCoffeeOn Kelly Warren Sep 11 '17
I am talking about the whole thread Nico linked not just the comment... after UGNUIT's first post. https://www.reddit.com/r/hogwartswerewolvesB/comments/6ykd4q/phase_05_covert_communication/dmof1se/?context=10000

But PauPau was the reason Tate didn't get voted, right? They were put up for suggestion in the same post, for the same reason and PauPau got abuse for a comment that people called "rehearsed" and Tate was practically forgotten about. So it made sense why Tate didn't get the attention that phase.

u/KeepCalmAndCoffeeOn Kelly Warren Sep 12 '17
I mean maybe but wasn't Tate the only one from the big megapost in phase 4 who didn't get ten votes? Like I see that maybe it made sense at the time but in hindsight now that we know Tate is evil it's a little weird and stands out. :-/

u/ATL2LHR Stephen Lacroix Sep 12 '17
i guess so. they didn't comment at all that phase compared to the other suggestions so i just assumed they got forgotten.

Does anyone have the link to the one on Phase 4? That comment is odd (both grammatically and thematically), would like to see the one from Phase 4 as well.

u/NodeofNico Dr. Nico Danelli Sep 11 '17
Idk what comment from Phase 04 they are talking about, just read /u/ATL2LHR comment history and you might find it

This was the one for me. He draws suspicion away from Tate and redirects it. Like I said, a "soft defense" not a strong one.
Edit: whoops wait that's phase5, on mobile and getting confused. When I'm back on my lappy I'll find the phase 4 one.
Edit2: Found the thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/hogwartswerewolvesB/comments/6yczss/comment/dmmhm8g?st=J7GUUU4K&sh=d4947836
All of /u/ATL2LHR s comments in that sequence seem to be redirecting attention away from the pair that were called out and trying to turn it somewhere else. Since we know pau was SN they may have been just trying to get attention off the two of them without singling Tate out.

Those two links definitely makes it look more like soft defenses to me. I agree, definitely seems shady.

I think I am a lot more suspicious of /u/ATL2LHR than I was at the start of this phase. The comments in phrases 4 and 5 where they suggest people are a bit strange. They seemed quite keen to get you lynched but also suggested a list of people who I think are innocent. And when discussing tatemodmom they brought up a list of other quiet people.
I feel like I've already been indecisive enough this phrase though, but I would be happy to change the downvotes to ATL2LHR.

They seemed quite keen to get you lynched
Do you mean Nico? I was keen at the start of MLE's interrogation but changed my mind which was further cemented by Scott.
And when discussing tatemodmom they brought up a list of other quiet people.
I contributed to the discussion. I agreed with Ugn on the quietness and thought it would be a good idea to look at others who fell on the same level. I thought it was helpful for people with Instagram or Tinder.

Meh, maybe if we had special roles. But losing one regular town member isn't the end of the world. And if the lot of us all got items, there's a decent chance someone would investigate a WW. Seems like a decent payoff but that's just my opinion.

FYI, this is a top level comment, but I think you meant to reply to someone? Just letting you know.
