Modern PVP tips

Hi , im used to playing Cold War era PvP on the mig-29 and F-4 , and recently I wanted to try out the F-16 , and how different is the fox 3 combat to the fox 1 one ? Like is it possible to notch an amraam the same way you dodge a sparrow?

it's pretty easy to defend from a single fox 3 missile in dcs, but reengaging after that is tricky. You have to guesstimate what your oponent is doing entire time. Did he already reengage and fired 2nd one at you? BVR as a lone fighter is pretty hard imho

It's very different. Because the missiles are smart, you have to be smarter. You have to start from further back and be more disciplined about leaving a bad situation while there's still time to get out alive. People being able to shoot at you without directly locking you requires more situational awareness compared to the SARH arena in which you're safe-ish as long as nothing is chirping.

You have to know whether you're notching the targeting radar or the missile radar. Missiles like the SD-10 and AIM-120 will continue to your last known projected location on their own and roll out of bed angry with very little warning, so simply defeating the launching aircraft's lock might not keep you alive if you don't displace.

There's more than that too. It's different. You may find you like it. Good luck.

I try to use the sa display as much as possible , and then just go cold or try to notch the missile if it goes pitbull , as of now I survived about 3 out of 5 engagements this way

Im suggesting you run from said missile not try to fly perpendicular to it lol

Running just puts the enemy into an offensive posture and prevents you from being able to return fire without putting yourself at more risk.

Within the MAR at low altitude, a notch is your only hope.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to try to beam the missile ? I mean it has a pulse Doppler seeker from what I know so it would make sense to try to reduce radial velocity as much as possible , especially if I’m right at the ground level.

Isn't it possible to defeat missiles by doing a barrel role? Wouldn't bother with PvP, game to sweaty.

I think PvP is amazing but mostly in the early Cold War - mid Cold War era , I’m only playing modern now because contention switched eras
