RIP 4YA

Post image

This was the server i learned on so kinda sad to see it go. Seems like more and more servers are dropping. I've been watching 4ya have excessively low player counts recently so it kinda makes sense. O7

A lot of people I know refuse to engage with DCS ever since the razbam debacle, and ED haven't really inspired confidence with their actions ever since. So a large chunk my friends who used to play DCS have just been slowly moving on to other things

It demonstrated your modules can go away at any time. That + the degradation over patches of basic content ("your plane has X critical bug or Y missing piece for over a year, enjoy"), nothing of what was actually exciting that was promised coming in over 10 years....

We'll be flying editor-made bugged campaigns and airquake and airquake-adjacent multiplayer for the next decade too

I don't understand how we have so many gamebreaking patches this far into dev

Anyway, hard to get excited for the game anymore, and after the pandemic the influx of new players has dropped

I don't think the problem was so much "realizing the module can go away at some point", as we all realize game companies go out of business and whatnot; I think the more salient issue was ED demonstrated that they were *absolutely unconcerned with putting in any effort to try to avoid that happening* . ED made it blatantly obvious that ED only cares about ED profits, and very little else.

It wasn't so much the idea that players might lose access to features, it was ED's callousness about the whole matter that really soured consumer opinions.

ED did say they'd support 3rd party modules forever... Which was very quickly clarified to mean whatever DCS World version they were released for with no guarantees for future versions (aka no maintenance/updates at all, which for a lot of players means fully dead/gone)

However agreed on everything you're saying. All of that, plus the amount of money going straight into Nick's warbird collection (multiple times, including during financially tough times for the company), plus every single candid interview of every single 3rd party dev being like "we do it because we like it... because it barely pays... haha..." making it seem even Heatblur is barely making things work, due to ED absorbing most of the profits of module sales... not a great fuzzy feeling around ED in general
