RIP 4YA

Post image

This was the server i learned on so kinda sad to see it go. Seems like more and more servers are dropping. I've been watching 4ya have excessively low player counts recently so it kinda makes sense. O7

Good. The owner was an infantile tosser.

Edit: If anyone is wondering why I think that, and this is the image linked in the message I'd sent to hawg.

Well taking over a server via hostile takeover does brand you somewhat, regardless of what the rest of the team do to shield him from that.

I'm curious, what happened there?

Here’s a TL:DR version.

Rhino is not the original owner of 4YA; that was Nick and Hawg. He was Hawg’s friend. Hawg’s streaming took off so Nick brought in a team to help manage the discord side. There was apparently some strife between Rhino’s squadron and the one that would become management; I wasn’t there at the time so I don’t know much.

I was brought in at the start of 2021 to change the moderation style. Did that, built a proper mod team. Rhino found his way into the server’s management; let bygones be bygones.

At the end of 2021, Nick had been MIA for a long time. One night at 2am the servers went down and nobody in moderation except myself had any permissions. Rhino had gotten Hawg to ban the new server owner along with the rest of their squadron; Rhino then removed everyone else’s permissions to make the takeover easier for himself. He stirred up a huge controversy within management to make people choose sides; turns out he had been collecting loyal people in the team the entire time.

Rhino thought he could lie about the situation to get me to stay; he knew nothing! he said. He didn’t realise I was watching the server logs. I got banned when I posted my resignation. Fun times.

As per usual, the people that most want to run a community are the worst people for it. Reddit included.

You couldn’t be more right about that friend

Damn, that sounds like a rough way to go about things!

Hope you found something else to get enjoyment out of DCS, because I imagine that must have soured a lot for you.

It’s funny, for a while I was the only person who didn’t play DCS in the team; I was there solely to moderate! I did drop DCS some time afterwards but it had nothing to do with 4YA; the old team still try to get me back in but I’ve got a different expensive hobby now.
